Shizuri Mugino's mature appearance has been a popular running joke among Toaru fans, especially since the anime adaptation of Toaru Anbu no ITEM started airing. Illustrator Kiyotaka Haimura designed her with a tall, elegant figure, fashionable style, and mature facial features, making her look more like a woman in her late 20s or 30s than a teenager. In canon, Mugino is only around 15-16 years old, and since Toaru Anbu no ITEM takes place roughly a year before the main Index story, she's even younger in this series. Fans often jokingly call her a “hag” because of her intimidating personality and grown-up aura, which makes seeing her in a regular school uniform feel surprisingly unusual compared to her fellow ITEM members 😭
