Pakistan’s Government borrowed $258 million from Chinese investors by having international institutions guarantee 95% of the debt, then called it a vote of confidence in its economy. That is like a friend co-signing your loan and you celebrating your credit score.
It is a trick Pakistan has performed before. The government has turned the art of borrowing into a form of political theatre so polished that the audience no longer notices the stage is on fire. Every crisis becomes a milestone. Every guarantee becomes a triumph. Every debt becomes a new chapter. The country does not need to fix its economy. It just needs to hold the ceremony before anyone reads the footnotes.

According to the New York Times, citing two Middle Eastern officials, the U.S. and Israel are preparing to possibly resume combat operations against Iran, possibly under a new name, as early as next week. Per the report, options for targeting include what one official called more aggressive strikes against both military and infrastructure targets. Additionally, another option on the table is to use special forces to go in and extract highly enriched uranium from inside Iran. However, per the report, this would need thousands of supporting troops and numerous other support elements to succeed and the risks of such an operation are extremely high.
1/ ISIS has called on former foreign fighters in Syria who settled in the country to join its ranks, seeking to capitalise on recent tensions between a group of Uzbek former fighters and the government of Ahmed al-Sharaa. IS warned foreign fighters that the Sharaa government would sooner or later move against them and eliminate them, either all at once or gradually, at the behest of external powers. It instead urged them to join forces with IS, which it claimed represented the only pure and uncompromised Muslim banner and project.
The appeal came in the editorial of IS's weekly newspaper, al-Naba, released on 14 May.
