A Real Bleak House?
We met the Mayor of Broadstairs, Cllr Rusiecki, at Bleak House — where Charles Dickens wrote Bleak House, the novel about a will whose beneficiaries received nothing.
We discussed the 1642 Henry Robinson Trust.
Sometimes history doesn't stay in the past.
Praise has been heaped on a van driver who gave an impromptu lift to armed officers chasing a suspect in Thanet.

During the chase on Tuesday 16 June, a passing motorist stopped to help and told a pursuing armed officer to get in the back of his van.
Congratulations to Douglas Lumsden for winning the Aberdeen South Westminster by-election.
This was an endorsement of @KemiBadenoch’s no nonsense approach and condemnation of Miliband’s energy policy that is costing both the country and households so much money.
After Reform’s significant by-election losses last night, will questions now start to be asked about Farage’s leadership?
I think we may need to keep a close eye on Jenrick…
Following ongoing concerns raised by residents about missed collections and overflowing bins across Thanet, I’ve worked cross-party with Cllr Tricia Austin and Cllr Barry Manners to bring forward a motion calling for urgent scrutiny and improvement.
This is illuminating.
“..oversaw..” that is an interesting choice of word.
Because as Suella knows I did not draft that bill. I did not see it prior to its introduction. I was, as she knows, only asked to take it through the Commons hours before it was heard. Nor was I given any authority to alter it- but I did make asks to do so to the Cabinet Office- to change the gender-neutral language wording to female wording.
All this is a matter of record. As are the names of those that drafted it. As are the members of the PLB Committee which would have cleared it, a Committee which included Suella as the Attorney General. Given that the Bill was about her maternity leave I assumed she would have taken an interest.
Perhaps I was wrong to make such assumptions. And to take her thanks and delight at it being introduced that she expressed to me at the time- in writing- as her genuine feelings.
As I say, illuminating.
Every life matters.
One law. One standard. For everyone.
This is about justice, for Henry, for his family and for all our children. They deserve better.
There really is no limit to how far Zia will go to twist the truth.
This is completely false & deliberately stripped of context.
At a time when emotions are high, Reform have chosen division & political point-scoring over decency.
I genuinely hoped they were better than this.
The right “uniting” by demanding parties stand aside isn’t democracy.
Some people will vote Conservative but never Reform. Others will vote Restore but never Reform. Their voices matter too.
Democracy is about giving people a genuine choice at the ballot box.
You know @KemiBadenoch and the Conservatives are getting things right when Zia Yusuf and Reform activists spend every day attacking them instead of Labour.
Funny how a party they constantly call “dead” is still the one they seem most desperate to stop.
Honoured to have been elected Leader of the Conservative Group on Thanet District Council.
I’ll continue fighting for Thanet residents, backing local businesses, pushing for value for taxpayers, and holding the Labour administration to account.
@dan__swords@CCACllrs That is massively down to your hard work Dan and the record of showing what can be delivered under Conservative leadership on that council.
Oddly, since March 1st Kemi has been holding Starmer to account on Mandelson, thrashed Labour in PMQs and undertaken parliamentary business and still managed 41 campaign visits.
Farage has been largely absent and is only ~30 visits ahead.
I’d call that a win for Kemi.

Days before local elections, Keir Starmer refused to attend and Nigel Farage didn’t turn up.
No scrutiny. No accountability. No respect for voters.
If they won’t face questions now, why trust them with your vote on Thursday?
