I am bewildered, and not very impressed, by the visceral, naked, irrational hatred spat out by some defenders of Jason Arday. If a Cambridge professor is accused of being an unqualified charlatan, the accusation might be racially motivated. On the other hand it might not, depending on the evidence. The correct question to ask is not, ”What is the colour of his skin” but “Is it in fact true that he is an unqualified charlatan?” Please examine the evidence before leaping to the assumption of racism.
As for the idea that journalists “piled in on him” and “hounded him to his death”, most attacks were against Cambridge University. That's the tech an OpenAI researcher just quit her job for. Two weeks ago she walked out of the hottest company on earth to join Conduit, a startup collecting brain recordings in a San Francisco basement.

Here's what happens in that basement. Paid volunteers put on four pound headsets covered in sensors and chat with an AI for two hours while it listens to their neurons fire. The signal is so faint the team shut off wall power to the entire building and runs on battery packs, because the hum from an ordinary outlet drowns out a human thought.

They've collected 10,000 hours of brains so far. The largest dataset of its kind ever assembled. And here's the part that should make your hands sweat. Whisper needed 680,000 hours of audio to master speech. The moment someone scales brain data the same way, the decoding stops being 45% right.

She says we're in the GPT-2 era of mind reading. GPT-2 was a joke in 2019. Five years later half the internet was written by its grandchildren.

Her timeline says developers wear thought-streaming headbands by 2027. By 2035, AI stops feeling like a tool and starts feeling like a limb.

Η Ουάσιγκτον έχει ικανότητα χωρίς σταθερή βούληση. Το Ισραήλ έχει και τα δύο, και το απέδειξε όταν πήγε δημόσια κόντρα στον Τραμπ για τα F-35 προς την Άγκυρα, προτείνοντας μάλιστα σχήμα που περιλαμβάνει Ελλάδα και Κύπρο.

Δεύτερον, γιατί η ενέργεια είναι γεωγραφία. Ο διάδρομος Κρήτης–Κύπρου–Ισραήλ δεν είναι συναισθηματική επιλογή, είναι χάρτης. Χωρίς το Ισραήλ, η ΑΟΖ της Κύπρου είναι ένα χαρτί που κανείς ισχυρός δεν σέβεται.

Τρίτον, γιατί την τεχνολογία δεν την αγοράζεις με ανακοινώσεις. Η Ασπίδα του Αχιλλέα δεν στήνεται με ευχές. Barak MX, David’s Sling, αισθητήρες, anti-drone, δοκιμασμένα σε πραγματικό πόλεμο, παραδοτέα σε χρόνο που κανένας άλλος δεν προσφέρει. Η Ευρώπη δεν έχει έτοιμο ράφι. Επικίνδυνο γιατί ανακοινώνεις ότι θα συλλάμβανες τον ηγέτη του κράτους που σου προμηθεύει την αεράμυνά σου, εν μέσω περιφερειακού πολέμου.

Επικίνδυνο γιατί ��ο κόστος το πληρώνει η χώρα σε πληροφορίες που παύουν να μοιράζονται, σε προγράμματα που παγώνουν, και το όφελος το εισπράττει αποκλειστικά η απέναντι πλευρά του Αιγαίου.

Επικίνδυνο γιατί μετατρέπει την Ελλάδα από προβλέψιμο εταίρο σε απρόβλεπτο, και η απροβλεψιμότητα είναι το μόνο πράγμα που σκοτώνει συμμαχίες. Και επικίνδυνο, τέλος, γιατί σέρνει ελληνικό έδαφος μέσα σε ξένη σύγκρουση, τη στιγμή που κάθε τέτοια δήλωση διαβάζεται από ανθρώπους που δεν κάνουν διάλογο, κάνουν στόχευση.

Μπορείς να πιστεύεις ό,τι θέλεις για τη Γάζα. Είναι δικαίωμά σου και το σέβομαι.

Αλλά όποιος κατέχει ή διεκδικεί θεσμικό ρόλο οφείλει να ξέρει τη διαφορά ανάμεσα σε αυτό που πιστεύει και σε αυτό που λέει, γιατί το δεύτερο κοστίζει σε τρίτους.
