As we commemorate Youth Day, we honour the brave young people of 16 June 1976, who marched through the streets of Soweto and across our country in pursuit of justice, dignity,
and a better future. Their bravery shaped the history of our province and altered the course of South Africa's journey towards democracy.
Today, Gauteng stands as the nation’s economic and social hub, built on the foundations laid by the 1976 generation who refused to accept inequality and oppression. As we reflect on their legacy, we are reminded that the responsibility of building a prosperous, inclusive and innovative society now
rests with today's youth. #YouthDay2026 #June16 #Youth1976
