@Houseplanhelp The EPC on my highly insulated Norwegian timber frame self build gave an E energy efficiency rating and recommended adding cavity wall and underfloor insulation and high heat retention storage heaters. When I offered to explain the construction the assessor declined the offer.
3. Refitting is far more expensive, disruptive and difficult than building homes right in the first place. It's the mother of false economies. Shoddy homes are being built not for our benefit, but to allow the construction industry (a major sources of Tory funds) to cut corners.
1. This is the only radiator in our house. We haven't turned it on yet, or used any other heating source. Yet we are always warm. Why? Because this house (which we rent) was built almost to passive house standards. Our bodies/cooking/appliances are sufficient to heat it. 🧵
@BenAdamSmith Ben, for traditional brick and block construction I'd suggest 'Build Your Own Brick House' (Crowood Press), partly because it follows the timeline of a build - what to do, when and employing whom - which I haven't seen anywhere else, but mainly because I'm the shameless author.
