BBC HAD THE SAVILE STORY IN 2011 AND CHOSE THE CHRISTMAS SCHEDULE
Two @BBC journalists spent weeks in the autumn of 2011 building one of the most important investigations in British broadcasting history.
@MeirionTweets Meirion Jones and Liz MacKean had the victims willing to speak on camera. They had the evidence. They had the story. They were first to break it.
Their Newsnight editor Peter Rippon dropped the investigation in December 2011.
Jones warned Rippon in writing that the BBC would be accused of a cover-up if the story was buried. Rippon killed it anyway.
BBC then broadcast Christmas tribute shows to Jimmy Savile. While the victims who had just given their testimony to BBC journalists sat at home waiting.
@ITV broke the story in October 2012. A full year later.
The Pollard Inquiry was assembled to explain how this happened. It found chaos and confusion at the BBC. No cover-up, it concluded.
Just collective institutional failure that happened to protect Britain's most prolific sex offender. Remarkable timing.
MacKean described the editorial process as an abrupt change of tone. One day it was excellent, get it ready for air. The next day it was hold on. She said impossible editorial demands were used to kill the story.
Then came the consequences.
Jones left after 26 years. MacKean after 23.
Jones said everyone on the right side of the Savile argument was forced out of the BBC. MacKean confirmed she did not feel encouraged to stay.
The people who spiked the story? They kept their jobs.
Jones and MacKean won the London Press Club Scoop of the Year for their work.
For a story their employer refused to broadcast.
Liz MacKean died in August 2017, aged 52.
@BBC never gave her a public apology.
Pollard Inquiry called it chaos and confusion.
Pick whatever word you prefer.

Radio silence from the legacy media on the Allison Inquiry
I wonder why … ?
Just imagine … they’re terrified to hear from folks who are struggling with COVID-19 vaccine injuries
They’re terrified of the powerful stories which will be shared on September 8, 9, 10, 11
They’re terrified because they’ve ignored and labelled these good people all types of names for half a decade
Not anymore. People will be heard.

JERSEY JAILED THE MAN WHO TRIED TO SAVE ITS CHILDREN
Stuart Syvret @StuartSyvret was Jersey's Health Minister. In 2007 he started asking uncomfortable questions about what was happening to children in the island's care homes. He said he was sacked for whistleblowing. Jersey said he was sacked for his behaviour.
That's the kind of framing you get when the institution decides the story.
Syvret had been collecting his own evidence since 2006. In May 2008 he made a formal complaint to police claiming senior civil servants had perverted the course of justice by covering up abuse in care homes.
So what happened to him? His house was raided. His computers and papers were taken. He was hit with a superinjunction, a secret gag order that was later exposed by UK Parliament, and imprisoned three times in connection with his efforts to expose what he described as horrific crimes across the island.
The Independent Jersey Care Inquiry eventually confirmed that children in care on the island endured 553 offences between 1947 and 2004. Most occurred at the notorious Haut de la Garenne children's home. The inquiry concluded that survivors were left with devastating and life-long consequences.
A constant theme in the inquiry report was the "Jersey Way" - a culture of ignoring and downplaying uncomfortable issues, which allowed abuse to continue without full investigation.
One UK judge called Syvret "a thorn in the side of the Jersey establishment." A Liberal Democrat MP accused Jersey's judiciary of misusing the Data Protection Act to silence critics.
Syvret eventually left Jersey fearing for his life, having received death threats for years. He ended up in an undisclosed location in the United States.
His conclusion, years later: the obstructions to the original police investigation were "astonishing." And those who blew the whistle paid the price while the system stayed intact.
Think about that. The man who raised the alarm about child abuse on a British Crown Dependency got jailed, gagged, and exiled.
If this case matters to you, share it. These children deserved better than this.

After heart surgery, the parents of a 13-year-old girl were told that their daughter was dying, and that they should start making end-of-life decisions, including donating her organs.
Upon transferring their daughter to another hospital however, they were told that doctors at Oregon Health and Science University had installed her new heart valve upside down.
“Doctors at Seattle Children's removed the inverted valve and replaced it with a different one, properly positioned. Her heart promptly began to function correctly. She was successfully taken off cardiac bypass and no longer required ECMO.
Her condition continued to stabilize over the following days in Seattle Children's ICU. After more than a month in critical condition, she was able to return home with her parents.”

🇬🇧 An attempted beheading in Belfast yesterday just lit the fuse across Britain.
Protests are now planned in over 70 UK cities tonight at 7 PM local time.
70 cities, simultaneously.
That scale of coordinated public response doesn't happen by accident. The Belfast attack tapped into something that's been building for a long time around immigration and public safety, and tonight is when it surfaces all at once.

HE RAPED CHILDREN FOR 18 YEARS AND WATCHED HIS SENTENCING FROM AN ARMCHAIR
Malcolm Phillips ran Skircoat Lodge care home in Halifax. Between 1976 and 1994 he sexually abused four girls and two boys in his care. He lived in a flat that led directly to the girls' bedrooms. The jury confirmed every bit of it.
On Monday he watched his sentencing from home via video link. Ninety-three years old, sitting in an armchair, occasionally leaning his head back. The judge gave him an absolute discharge.
That is the legal term for nothing.
No prison. No hospital. Just a sexual harm prevention order handed to a man who has already spent nearly two decades preying on the most vulnerable children the state could
That must have been a tremendous comfort to the survivors in the room.
His assistant Linda Brunning got 25 years. She held a child down while Phillips abused him. She gets a quarter century. He gets home in time for dinner.
Phillips was first jailed in 2001 for abusing eight female residents at the same home. They did not restart their investigation into further victims until 2017. Sixteen years of delay. When Operation Henway finally concluded, the legal system produced an absolute discharge.
Victim Kelly Lees was indecently assaulted by Phillips between the ages of 11 and 12. She said it is not justice. Angela Radford said he should die in prison.
Karen Bentham, who was raped twice as a teenager at Skircoat Lodge, said she is the one living a life sentence.
The children at Skircoat Lodge were told no one cared about them and no one would believe them. If they ran away, police brought them straight back and labelled them troublemakers.
Fifty years later @Calderdale Council, which was responsible for the home, issued a statement saying it was "deeply sorry." The investigation that led to Monday's hearing only started because survivors campaigned for years to be heard.
The system that failed these children in the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s managed to fail them one final time on Monday.
