Anything with a URL can charge for itself now. An API, a dataset, a model, a file, a single function.
A weather feed. A scraper you wrote on a weekend. A model endpoint you were never going to monetise because Stripe, accounts and API keys were never worth the trouble for a few cents a call.
That's what changed. Not a feature the setup cost went to zero.
We've barely scratched what that opens up, and what we're building next is heavier than what's live today.

We didn't want a bag sitting in a wallet that we could dump on the people who showed up early. We'd rather this still exists in a year than have it do one great week and honestly, that's the only version of this we're interested in building.

There's a status code, 402, that's been sitting in the HTTP spec since 1997 for exactly this. "Payment Required." Nobody ever implemented it everyone just wired up Stripe instead.
