New study compares FDA-proposed method to define which foods get labeled high in sat fat, sugar, or sodium to Chile, Canada, & PAHO methods. FDA method would require least products to have a warning label, especially in categories served in small portions. https://t.co/nSlKiqB0fP

New in @IJBNPA: @GFRP_UNC/@GillingsGlobal researchers & Brazilian colleagues find that adding an “ultra-processed” label to Brazil's FOP warning label helps people better ID UPFs but may not influence choice to buy products more than warning labels alone: https://t.co/81gBgJivuc

(3/3) Study in @AMJPublicHealth found that in a sample of ≈10,000 products available in Chilean supermarkets, 63% required at least 1 nutrient warning label. Only 4% of products high in sugar, saturated fat, sodium or calories failed to display the required front-of-pack labels.
(1/3) New studies from @ciapec_inta & @GFRP_UNC find:
1-Chile's food labeling & advertising law led to significantly less calories, sugar, sodium, & sat fat purchased from packaged food/drinks
2-Industry compliance with front-of-pack warning labels was 94%
https://t.co/2nHKpnqh4i
(2/3) Study in @PLOSMedicine found during Phase 2 of the Law of Food Labeling and Advertising, Chileans bought:
- 37% less sugar
- 22% less sodium
- 16% less sat. fat, &
- 23% fewer total calories
from products with warning labels vs. hypothetical expected purchases with no law.
“What would you do if you pulled up to a stoplight and all three colors were signaling at once?”
