VEHICLE RECOVERIES IN EKURHULENI

The Gauteng Traffic Police and Gauteng Traffic Wardens STT (Eastern Corridor), in collaboration with CarTracker, Netstar, and 1Track, recovered multiple stolen and hijacked vehicles during operations across Ekurhuleni between 16 - 21 July 2024.

- A Suzuki Swift stolen in Brakpan, recovered at Nguni Hostel, Vosloorus.

- A Polo Vivo stolen in Witbank, recovered on Commissioner Road — two suspects arrested.

- A Hyundai H100 stolen in Soweto, recovered on Commissioner Road — one suspect arrested.

- A Isuzu D-Max stolen in Tembisa, recovered in Tsietsi Extension 7 — suspect arrested while stripping the vehicle.

- A Suzuki Ertiga hijacked in Johannesburg, recovered on Magagula Street, Spruitview.

- A hijacked Ford Ranger taken in Brakpan, recovered in Villa Liza, Vosloorus.

- A Toyota Quantum stolen in Brakpan, recovered in Vosloorus Extension 20.

- A Toyota Quantum shell, suspected stolen, recovered in Vosloorus with a positive case number traced back to KwaZulu-Natal.

- A hijacked Nissan NP300 taken in Germiston, recovered in Kwa-Thema.

- A Toyota Fortuner hijacked in Mayfield, recovered in Benoni.

- A Toyota Starlet hijacked in Ivory Park Extension 15, recovered in Southward Drive, Duduza Informal Settlements.

- A Ford Ranger hijacked in Sandton, recovered in President Park.

- A Hyundai i20 hijacked in Elsburg, recovered in Buhle Park.

- Two Hyundai i20s stolen during a house robbery in Clayville Extension 79, both recovered in Ivory Park Extension 15.

An operation was carried out by Soshanguve VISPOL, Gauteng Traffic Police, Gauteng Traffic Wardens, TSHENOLO P.I, Zondi Crime Busters, Jimbos Private Security, and Private and Confidential Security following information about a male suspect allegedly involved in car hijackings in the Soshanguve and Rietgat Policing Precincts.

Acting on the information, officers proceeded to an address in Block F East, Soshanguve. Upon searching officers found nn 8-channel car jammer and a large plastic bag containing uniforms believed to have been taken during a robbery.

The suspect was apprehended for possession of car jamming equipment, possession of suspected stolen property, and possession of a motor vehicle used in the commission of a crime.

The group underwent training which included Psychometric assessments, Aviation Medical tests, English Language Proficiency, the Remote Pilot Certificate (RPC), Restricted Radiotelephony, Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) operations, and product-specific training, all facilitated by UAV Industries.

Facebook Robbers Arrested in Eldorado Park

A response by members of SAPS and Gauteng Traffic Wardens led to the arrest of five suspects, four aged 18 and one aged 17, linked to a robbery involving a fake iPhone sale posted on Facebook.

The suspects lured a victim under the pretense of selling an iPhone. Upon his arrival, the victim was ambushed, robbed of the goods he was transporting, as well as two cellphones. One of the stolen phones was later recovered, along with his two bank cards, driver’s license, and identity document.

The suspects were traced and arrested, two additional suspects fled the scene upon seeing law enforcement officers.

The arrested suspects were charged with possession of suspected stolen property, and the complainant has opened a case of robbery with a firearm.

In a collaborative operation involving the Hawks, Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI) Cyber Crime Unit, Gauteng Traffic Police, and Gauteng Traffic Wardens, officers acted on intelligence received from an informant about a printing business in Yeoville suspected of producing fraudulent documents for immigrants from various countries.

Upon arrival at the premises, officers uncovered a fully equipped setup used to manufacture a wide range of fake documents. These included South African birth certificates, marriage certificates, work permit visas, passports, SARS certificates, identity documents, bank statements with counterfeit bank stamps, CIPC certificates, and refugee asylum documents.
