@curebores@ManaByte I cannot force you to detach from your current delusion. I have said my piece and tried my best to elaborate on how PC fucntionality works, it’s entirely up to you to comprehend it.
@curebores@ManaByte its sounds like you’re forcing your own understanding to be true. nowhere in there says they enable it by themselves. they enforce standards that make the consumers follow. they force you to enable it if you want to play their game. that has been the translation this whole time.
@curebores@ManaByte motherboard manufacturers issue BIOS updates to keep up with new and modern standards. and for one to access bios, they need to be physically with the computer. ring-0 privileges does not grant motherboard tampering.
@curebores@ManaByte and here I thought you’re more educated on me about computers telling me to stay away from yours? yes, even if it is running on ring-o “kernel” it cannot tamper with BIOS. them enforcing, is them forcing you to follow standard security protocols yourself.
@curebores@ManaByte it is physically impossible to change BIOS settings remotely. unless they are the ones issuing BIOS updates. remote control softwares arent even accessible during BIOS. motherboard manufacturers are the only ones who can “tamper” your bios remotely by issuing BIOS updates.
@curebores@ManaByte They said they’re enforcing standard platform security features. Policies you need to follow. if you want to play their game, and you have a DMA device on, the standard is to enable IOMMU, so enable it or keep locked out of the game. This is that type of enforcement.
@curebores@ManaByte no it doesnt. but it certainly does force you to enable it to be able to access and play their games. it wil be you who has to turn it on. if your BIOS “suddenly” has it enabled, then most likely a BIOS update has happened that patches IOMMU to be enabled to meet new standards.
@curebores@ManaByte idk what kind of fantasy you live on, nobody said anything about playing with BIOS. even then, once microsoft implements its changes after the crowdstrike incident, they will implement the same security measures with relevance to IOMMU.
@curebores@ManaByte IOMMU is a feature already designed for the purpose vanguard is making use of it. Even then, it only affects the memory vanguard itself is protecting. It’s not breaking or tampering your hardware, its just blocking the hardware’s “unauthorized direct access” to your PC’s memory.
@Alge025@ValorantUpdated apparently when they traced it, the AC saw the game as a vulnerable software and flagged it. the same as other cases of “false-positive” flags. this blog I encountered from @angelroom0 helps clarify things out. https://t.co/A7QmatOTI1
@curebores@ManaByte you basically debunked your own arguement. since its already on your bios, your computer manufacturer implemented it. riot is merely making use of it to make security concrete by not letting suspicious and vulnerable hardware run preemptively. that’s the purpose.
@curebores@ManaByte what you said isnt relevant to what I said at all, they aren’t breaking the law nor tampering. their AC is merely functioning and following a security system that microsoft itself is attempting to implement sooner or later. https://t.co/RR7KTe523Y
@Gris0lm@swift_reviews if this was really a legal dispute, “law experts” would already be all around it trying to grab their money because if they get riot, it gives them the right to go after the software and hardware companies riot needed to certify their products with and make it run
@curebores@ManaByte but they arent tampering outside of their TOS and what microsoft has already implemented on their system? the AC isnt breaking the hardware… it blocks the hardware from being operational while having any riot software running. https://t.co/RR7KTe523Y
I usually don’t tweet about these type of things often, but I’ve been seeing it a lot particularly in Valorant and in the last couple years.
It does not matter how popular, hard working, or talented someone is, there will always be consequences. I don’t know when this idea got lost for so many people over the last couple years, but it was a very well-known thing when I started esports 10 years ago.
Your image as a person is EVERYTHING nowadays, and its astonishing that orgs/peers don’t try to help or train for it especially with the increased use of social media and the influence it has our on life and work.
Basically, don’t be stupid online OR in person, its not that hard 👍
