If you’re Nigerian, you’ve probably been handed garden egg with groundnut as a snack more times than you can count.
For many people, it’s just something you chew while visiting family, attending ceremonies, or relaxing with friends.
But here’s the surprising part…
This humble fruit is secretly one of nature’s smartest survival experts. It comes with its own chemical defense system.
Interesting facts about Garden eggs:-
• Garden egg naturally produces powerful compounds that make many insects lose interest in eating it, giving the plant its own built-in defense long before pesticides are applied.
• Its deep taproot acts like an underground straw, pulling hidden moisture from deep inside the soil when the surface becomes dry.
• Every garden egg flower contains both male and female parts, allowing the plant to produce fruits even when very few pollinating insects are around.
• During periods of intense sunshine, the fruit increases its protective pigments to shield itself from heat and harmful ultraviolet rays.
• Unlike many soft fruits that spoil quickly, harvested garden eggs naturally slow down their metabolism, helping them stay firm for much longer.
• The beautiful purple colour found in some garden egg varieties comes from a powerful antioxidant called nasunin, which helps protect the fruit’s cells from damage.
• That smooth, shiny skin isn’t just for looks. It’s covered by a natural waxy layer that locks moisture inside and reduces water loss under the hot sun.
• Some local garden egg varieties grow sharp thorns on their stems and leaves to discourage goats and other hungry animals from eating them.
• Hidden inside the leaves are tiny crystal-like structures that can irritate insects trying to feed on the plant.
• The slightly bitter taste of many garden eggs is actually part of the plant’s survival strategy, discouraging animals from eating the fruit before the seeds fully mature.
• Inside every garden egg, the seeds are suspended in a slippery gel that keeps them healthy while preventing them from sprouting too early.
• The roots quietly release natural compounds into the soil that can slow the growth of some nearby weeds, giving the plant more space to thrive.
• Its soft-looking flesh contains tiny air pockets that help absorb shocks from heavy rain or rough handling without damaging the seeds inside.
• Garden egg doesn’t depend on shorter or longer days to produce fruit. As long as it has enough warmth and moisture, it can continue flowering throughout the year.
• When a garden egg turns yellow or orange, it is NOT getting old it’s the plant’s way of announcing that its seeds are fully mature and ready to start a new generation.
No wonder our fathers rate Garden egg so highly they incorporated it into our culture!
An amazing vegetable and more!

Idris drove me from my hotel to the airport in London. First ever time I went to the airport in London in a private car. In fact, first and only time I used private car in the UK.
He always comes to see me anytime I'm in London.
Top, top guy.
What do you buy for someone who has everything (She's a Billionaire o).
The family my husband tutors on the island spoke so highly of him and recommended him to another family, describing him as a fantastic mathematics teacher who is both trustworthy and diligent.
After just one conversation, the new family essentially gave him a blank cheque, they quickly agreed on terms, and he’s now happily tutoring their children as well.
The pay from this new arrangement is far beyond anything we could have imagined, and we’re just super grateful for her recommendation.
We’ve since been racking our brains trying to find the perfect gift for this wonderful woman.
When I was in Kuje Prison, I met Haruna Garba Gololo, who was sent there by Senate President Godswill Akpabio. He had been granted bail for nearly three weeks but was still unable to meet the bail conditions.
He’s spent several weeks in prison before being granted bail.
I also met David Nwokorie, who was arrested and detained by the Nigeria Police Force following a messy breakup with Genevieve Opara, the daughter of retired Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Hilary Opara. Last week, when Justice Rita Ajumogobia of the Federal High Court granted David bail after he had spent close to four months in prison, he was required to present a Level 16 officer and a colonel in the Nigerian Army as sureties. these are almost impossible bail conditions.
Even the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who is complaining of wrongful imprisonment of 93% of current inmates dragged a critic, Emorioloye Owolemi, before the Federal High Court sitting in Akure, Ondo State, over alleged cyberstalking, and the man languished in prison for months.
I was sent to prison by Tinubu.
There are 817 awaiting-trial inmates in Kuje out of a total prison population of 1,115, with 47 of them diagnosed with tuberculosis.
There is no single cause that has been identified for what causes Autism.
But what we know , it is an interplay of genetic, environmental and many more factors , this which can affect the social and communication skills of a child i.e it is a neurodevelopmental issue.
As wrongly thought by the public, they are not mentally retarded but Autism exists as a spectrum eg if you watch movies, you'd see some Autism portrayal as not so smart and you will see some portrayals as savants and super smart like Shaun Murphy in the Good Doctor.
Some things that we know are risks (still being studied) Family history ( if a sibling is in the spectrum) , Age of parents , Genetics, complications around Birth. But as said earlier these are still being identified and Autistic spectrum disorder still has to do with a lot of disorder.
What we definitely know is...
VACCINES WON'T GIVE YOUR CHILD AUTISM
" In 1998, A former Doctor and Activist called Andrew Wakefield published a Paper in which where he suggested that giving your child the Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Vaccine made them have Autism. This sent a global panic.
His claims were investigated and found to be untrue, the paper was retracted, his license was revoked and struck off the register.
Sadly today, Many Anti Vaccines team still spread these Fake agenda.
What we advocate for is parents should identify the symptoms early in their child and get them to see a specialists. I'll attach a picture showing some early signs to look out for.
In a country like Nigeria where the child would have been flogged multiple times for not doing homework, and punished for disobeying.
Getting the Child to A Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist helps improve the child livelihood.
More awareness is still needed around ASD and we need to create a safe space and be caring.
Case - Last month, See the Cyberbully on Sir Femi Otedola's child after his picture was posted.
We can do better.
I'd be happy to take any questions.
Don't forget to save and bookmark this tweet and thr picture of signs of autism.
Do share too. Thanks
