@redjar__ Very subjective. I like it when mech joints have visual design rules relating to fictional technological limitations. Like having a specific shape for the motor and an obvious way the power is transferred to the opposite side of the joint.
@KatiKnitt This is what I was thinking when watching the trailer. Unfortunately, I think this is just what global illumination looks like without heavy stylization.

@CypressDahlia And the crux of this issue is exactly what you have labeled in red! When you start out looking for visual interest, you set your drawings up for early wins. But as you get deeper into the design, usually I realize there is no substance and abandon the image out of boredom.
@CypressDahlia Interesting. I think my pyramid would be an inversion of this currently. Its something I've been trying to work on. Starting from function has always been hard for me. I feel like I'm meandering unproductively when I start that way. But, its really hard to work back in function.
