Building a strong, stable shoulder for a pitcher is about far more than the shoulder itself.
At Premier, we assess shoulder function from every angle, but the real challenge—the holy grail—is understanding how all of those measurements fit together into one complete picture.
We start at the foundation: the pelvis and rib cage. The shoulder blade sits on top of this system, and if the base isn’t stable or moving efficiently, the structures above it are forced to compensate. From there, we work up the chain, evaluating the more obvious metrics like total arc range of motion, internal and external rotation strength, and the relationships between them.
The shoulder’s ability to produce force is highly correlated to the body’s ability to distribute force throughout the kinetic chain. When the pelvis, trunk, and scapula work together, stress can be absorbed and transferred efficiently. When they don’t, that load is often concentrated directly into the elbow, increasing the likelihood of overload and injury.

Webb is a master at hunting weak contact on the floor. He’s in the 90th percentile for Ground Ball rate at 53.1%. By living in the ‘Shadow Zone’, where he gets a 53.7% swing rate and forces hitters into defensive contact that turns into easy outs.

Logan Webb doesn’t just pitch in the zone he dominates it. 3-1 record, a 0.71 ERA, and a microscopic 0.61 WHIP over five starts. This wasn’t just a hot streak; it was a masterclass in command and contact management.
Everything flows through the Sinker and Changeup. His sinker is the primary weapon as it has an 11 Run Value, putting him in the 98th percentile for Fastball Run Value.

This is an example of why a comprehensive assessment for even a remote athlete is needed. Drill packaging is not achieved by finding what we “think” will work but rather identifying specific inefficiencies and partnering them with adequate training environments to drive change.

During our recent assessment, data revealed a mechanical efficiency leak in the early-to-mid kinetic chain. Jake demonstrates a tendency to get "stuck" over his back hip, maintaining excessive rear hip and knee flexion too far down the mound.
Facilitate Clean Rotation: By training the rear hip and knee to efficiently rotate out of the hinge, we replace the aggressive, late "push" with an effortless, sequence-driven rotation.
