I have seen someone asking why water tanks are usually opaque instead of transparent, since transparent ones would make it easier to see the water level.

According to me and the little knowledge I have, I think I have the answer:

Transparent tanks are rare for a good reason. Sunlight passes through them and triggers algae growth inside the tank. This ruins the water quality, gives it a bad taste and can make it unsafe over time. On the other hand, black or opaque tanks block UV light, which keeps the water cleaner for much longer.
