@JaycelAdkins@Indianlitwitch I read this with my oldest when he was in first grade. Even he quickly picked up on how formulaic and repetitive it was. Which may require a more esoteric approach to reading it.
@NedBertz@NZaidka @AmitMajmudar @JaycelAdkins Came to say the same thing. This is fun and creative. And the emphasis on things looking like lotuses echoes the unabridged Ramayana.
@Red_Grimgrin@W_T_Han Jia Zheng sure takes everything in stride at the end for someone who was as high-strung as he was at the beginning, with no evidence of character change in between.
@nguyenhdi I recently took my 10-yo to sit in on a class at @stjohnscollege. We spoke to the tutor afterwards, who offered this advice: “Never read a book for the first time. Always read a book for the first time.”
@nguyenhdi Oh, no way. Sei Shonagon, Plato, Aristotle, Homer, Murasaki Shikibu, whoever wrote 金瓶梅, Plutarch, Shakespeare, and I could go on and on. Cao Xueqin just looms large in my mind right now.
