Imagine greeting a Christian Grandma with “Good morning ma” and she replied:

“Eku Ọdun ooo, emi wa a sọpọ̀ ẹ.” 😄

Mind you, she knows fully well that I’m also a Christian. No arguments, no division, just pure love and cultural respect.

Religion tolerance in Yorùbá land is something else entirely. Different faiths, same humanity, same joy. ❤️

Back in the early 90s when we were in Primary One, childhood felt different. Nobody dropped us off at school or came to pick us up after closing hours. We walked in groups with our classmates, splitting one after another as each person reached their street or compound.

Our parents were never scared that we would be kidnapped, get lost, or something terrible would happen on the road. The whole neighborhood felt like one big family. Every elder knew your parents, and if you misbehaved outside, news would reach home before you did 😄.

We played freely till sunset, bought snacks on the roadside with pure joy, and somehow still made it home safely before the streetlights came on. Life was simpler, safer, and filled with genuine human connection.

Today, things have changed completely. Even some Primary 6 pupils are still escorted to and from school, no matter how close the house is. Parents now live with constant fear because the world no longer feels as safe as it used to.

It’s not that today’s children are weaker; the environment has simply changed. The innocence of those days has faded, replaced by caution and survival instincts. Sometimes, when we remember those moments, we realize we were lucky to experience a generation where freedom and peace of mind still existed.
