I am heartbroken by the passing of my friend and former colleague, Chris Murphy. For many years, Chris devoted himself to serving Dorchester County and the people of South Carolina. I will remember his sharp wit, his love for our community, and the many years he gave to public service.

Like every human life, Chris’s life included both triumphs and difficult chapters. Today is a day to mourn his loss, remember the good he accomplished, and extend grace and compassion to those who loved him most.

My heart and prayers are with Judge Maite Murphy, their sons Austin and Jackson, and the entire Murphy family during this profoundly painful time.

I want to thank everyone on both sides who gave so much of their time, energy, and resources throughout this process. People make such sacrifices because they deeply love South Carolina and care about her future.

While we were political opponents—we were never enemies. And now that the election is over, let us come together, move forward in unity, and continue working to make our great state even stronger in the years ahead. God bless South Carolina.
