Just to clarify....in England and Wales stray dogs are put down after 7 days if they cannot be found a place in a rescue center. The public is NOT allowed to adopt them. We have a law against it. Most rescues work tirelessly to save dogs and prevent many many euthanizations a year. The problem is that they are full and can't take on new dogs a lot of the time. Puppy breeding licenses need to be suspended until the shelters are clear.

If you have a microchipped dog or cat you can definitely help get this important petition over the line.

The Government announced that pet owners would get a microchip system that worked to reunite lost dogs and cats by creating a CENTRAL MICROCHIP PORTAL, which simply had ONE LOGIN for VETS, WARDENS and POLICE, giving them instant 24/7 access linking all 25 microchip databases. This was to be a huge fix for the fragmented, broken system we have today.

What is proposed, reading Defra’s response to the petition, could be far worse as the databases take control and they can see a way of making money from using commercial solutions with an industry-led plan. What does that mean to you and me? We are already seeing the big databases changing their registration charges to annual subscription fees, something that has never happened before!

The Government portal would make registrations easier to access, increase scanning & checking rates, and lead to more reunites, free of charge. We believe this is a vital step to make pet microchipping work. We call on the government to deliver the central portal now to #MakeChipsCount

Please HELP save the Central Portal, sign the petition and share. You can check how many people have signed by using the #petition map and looking up your constituency: Two people can sign using one email address and don’t forget to verify your signature via the email the Government send you.
