Today, we honor retired Chief Joseph Esposito, who started with the NYPD in 1968 as a police trainee and retired in 2013 as the longest-serving Chief of Department. He leaves behind a legacy of public service and commitment to duty that will not be forgotten. #FidelisAdMortem
In recent years, Joe continued his service as Deputy Commissioner of the Department of Buildings while battling cancer.
He worked hard for his city, right up to the end. And he left it a better place.
Joe Esposito was not only a friend for almost 30 years, but he was the definition of public service.
He served his city on our darkest days and brightest moments, climbing the ranks from NYPD Officer to Chief of Department to NYC Emergency Management Commissioner.
