Single parents are telling us that they are already feeling the impact of the cut to Universal Credit. The Government must reinstate the £20 per week to #UniversalCredit at today’s Budget. #KeepTheLifeline
We spoke to Amy who goes without meals in order to feed her children. We think this is unacceptable.
RT if you think single parent families should always have enough to eat.

For single parent families in poverty, putting food on the table can be a challenge. While food shortages continue to hit the news, we wanted to look at the reality for single parents trying to feed themselves and their children.
The price of London’s childcare in particular traps many families in poverty.
RT/Share if you think single parents should be able to access affordable childcare.

Today we’re looking at childcare.
Access to affordable childcare is essential for all parents, but particularly single parents who may not have family nearby to help. Sarah told us that being without any form of childcare left her feeling very isolated.
With over half of single parent families in London living in poverty, more needs to be done to provide mental health support so that parents like Amy and her children can thrive and not just survive.
It’s Tuesday and we’re focusing on employment. During the pandemic, single parents are more likely to have lost income, working hours, and even their jobs.
Single parents often have additional costs, such as childcare, that have a huge impact on finances. Sarah, who works more than one job, told us that she was “lucky” that her jobs worked around her family life, otherwise she would be ‘financially crippled.’
As Sarah highlights above, for many families living in poverty, they also have no choice but to live in accommodation that is unsafe and insecure.

To start #LDNChallengePoverty week, we’re looking at housing.
40% of Londoners are too poor to buy essentials and take part in everyday life, which means they are unable to socialise, travel, maintain presentable standards in their homes and in the way they dress.
This week, we are supporting London Challenge Poverty Week. Each day, we’ll be sharing shocking stats and stories from two single parents, Amy and Sarah (not their real names), living in poverty in the capital.
Poverty, both the definition and the causes, are complex but the impact of it is far-reaching. One measure of poverty is income. The @TheIFS have a simple tool to help you calculate your income in comparison to rest of the UK: https://t.co/9ppSRWiF1h.
