Lead paint is still produced and used all over the world — even in the US and EU.
It's had devastating effects: an estimated 1 in 3 kids globally have brain damage from lead exposure.

"We were dirty and tired. People around us were dying. I didn't want to feel like I was part of it, but I was a part of it," the officer said.
Please read my latest for @CNN about the Russian officer who quit the war in Ukraine. One of many.

Read @pavlovauliana's dispatch from Istanbul on "Putin's generation" and its despair and disgust with the war. They have lived their whole lives in the Russia that Putin built during his 22 years in power... and are now fleeing it in droves
“My father stopped speaking to me after we moved to Turkey. He thinks I am part of the fifth column,” Igor tells me. He notes that his surname ends in “enko” which is a common Ukrainian ending.
Here is my latest on young Russian emigres: https://t.co/9sWfuLmXUq
Had a pleasure of doing a story on my generation that grew up under President Vladimir Putin and now is fleeing Putin’s Russia in droves. With opposition in Russia made illegal, young Russians continue to protest from abroad.
I’ve spent a lot of today thinking about my dear friend and @POLITICOEurope’s former editor in chief @Stephen_G_Brown who died suddenly on this day last year. What a wonderful man you were - fiercely talented, kind, very mischievous. We miss you.
Could not be more proud of @pavlovauliana, for her brave reporting & personal integrity. Hear her explain to @BBCWorld why she signed a petition opposing the Ukraine invasion, despite potential consequences for Russian journos who speak out against the war https://t.co/6v1MCstcD4
.@NickKristof on leaving journalism: "I've reluctantly concluded that I should try not only to expose problems but also see if I can fix them directly."
Nicholas Kristof, after 37 years at The New York Times as a reporter, editor and opinion columnist, is leaving the newspaper as he considers running for governor of Oregon, the state where he grew up. https://t.co/0mVig79bFP
Some personal news: Today was my last day at @chemicalwatch.
Next month, I'm heading to law school at NYU Law. I'm so excited for this new challenge! And I hope to keep working on international environmental issues.
Thanks to the colleagues, sources and readers who have made my time in journalism so wonderful! I will miss it greatly.
But it helps to know that the global reporting at Chemical Watch will be in good hands: @elineschaart takes over in September!
This is a wonderful tribute by @harrispolitico to a stellar journalist and human.
