There are good reasons to reconsider rules that bar students from exams for being a few minutes late.

Traffic jams, weather and pollution are increasingly unpredictable, and children did not create these problems. Education is the great equaliser. Inclusion means little if a deserving student is denied an exam because of circumstances beyond their control.

Talk of discipline and punctuality cannot outweigh the loss of opportunity for young people who have worked hard to get there. Exam centres in some tests are often located far from where students live, and reaching them on time is not easy for everyone.

These are young adults trying to build a future. They need support, not rules that punish them for factors they cannot control.
