Together with the leaders of 🇱🇻 🇪🇪 🇮🇹 🇦🇹 🇨🇿 🇬🇷 🇵🇱 🇸🇰 🇸🇪 🇩🇰 🇧🇬 🇫🇮 🇭🇺 🇷🇴 🇸🇮 🇭🇷 🇲🇹 🇨🇾 🇳🇱 🇩🇪, I have addressed @eucopresident@vonderleyen and @MichealMartinTD on the situation at the EU's external border in Ceuta.
We are determined to prevent smugglers from challenging the integrity of our external borders. We cannot allow illegal entry, the instrumentalisation of migration or other hybrid threats to create the perception that illegal entry into the EU can turn into legal stay.
Europe must respond swiftly, effectively and in a coordinated manner. Protecting our external borders, preventing illegal migration and supporting Member States under pressure are our shared European responsibility.
Last night, another brutal Russian ballistic missile attack struck Kyiv. One missile exploded just steps away from Lithuania's Embassy, damaging the building but, thankfully, leaving our people unharmed.
This is yet another reminder that Russia's terror knows no limits. And that Ukraine is defending not only its own people, but the security of all Europe.
Lithuania stands firmly with President @ZelenskyyUa, the people of Ukraine and calls on our Allies to step up their support by providing more modern air defence systems to save lives.
Ukraine must be given the means to protect its skies, its people, and our shared freedom.
Today we remember the victims of the Medininkai massacre. Thirty-five years ago, seven unarmed Lithuanian officers were murdered by Soviet OMON perpetrators while guarding the border of the newly re-established independent Lithuanian state.
Today, as Russia wages its war of aggression against Ukraine and threatens Europe's security, their sacrifice reminds us that freedom is never given – it must be protected.
We bow our heads in memory of the victims of the Medininkai massacre. We will never forget.
Today in Klaipėda, we held the traditional wreath-laying ceremony in memory of those who never returned from the sea – one of the oldest traditions of Lithuania’s Sea Festival.
The ceremony began with a flyover by Romanian fighter jets serving in NATO’s Air Defence mission – a powerful symbol of Allied solidarity and our shared commitment to the security of the Baltic region.
Today I welcomed the rescue team who have just returned from Venezuela.
Every one of them - firefighters and rescuers, medical professionals, canine search-and-rescue handlers, and logistics specialists - deserves the highest respect.
Their rescue operations, the medical and humanitarian assistance they provided, and the establishment of a mobile field hospital stand as a remarkable example of human solidarity and compassion.
Helping people affected by disasters is a responsibility we all share. I am proud that Lithuania contributed to the international relief effort in Venezuela.
Congratulations, Prime Minister @andyburnham, on taking office. I wish you every success in your new role.
Lithuania values our close partnership with the UK, built on shared values and a steadfast commitment to Euro-Atlantic security.
I look forward to continuing our strong cooperation in supporting Ukraine, strengthening NATO and the JEF, enhancing regional security and resilience, also deepening our ties in innovation, trade, and energy.
In Klaipėda, 🇱🇻President @edgarsrinkevics and I observed a demonstration of joint Lithuanian Armed Forces exercises at sea, including the boarding of a non-compliant vessel and a helicopter medical evacuation.
Protecting critical infrastructure has become more important than ever. We must continue strengthening NATO’s Eastern Flank, maintain the Baltic Sentry mission, and ensure our military are ready to respond swiftly to any threat in the Baltic Sea.
Together with 🇱🇻 President @edgarsrinkevics, we visited the Klaipėda LNG terminal – a strategic asset for the energy independence and security of the Baltic region.
Latvia's commitment to using the terminal until 2044 demonstrates the value of regional and transatlantic solidarity: 70% of LNG imports come from the U.S.
As we strengthen the protection of critical infrastructure, we must continue advancing strategic energy projects that make the Baltic region more secure and resilient.
Congratulations to 🇱🇻 President @edgarsrinkevics on receiving the Honorary Doctorate of Klaipėda University.
This distinction reflects your personal achievements as well as the strong intellectual, academic, and cultural ties between Lithuania and Latvia.
Rooted in our shared Baltic heritage and strengthened by our cultural togetherness, these ties inspire more joint research projects, especially in historical memory, cultural identity, and Baltic language studies.
Opening the Lithuania–Latvia Business Forum in Vilnius together with President @edgarsrinkevics 🇱🇹🇱🇻
Lithuania and Latvia are building security together: through stronger defense industries, protected critical infrastructure, and innovation that strengthens our resilience.
We aim to build a single Baltic defense industry.
A very warm meeting with my good friend, President @edgarsrinkevics, during his state visit to Lithuania. 🇱🇹🇱🇻
Lithuania and Latvia share a unique bond rooted in our common history and Baltic identity. Today, our partnership is a strategic advantage for regional security and resilience.
We discussed NATO’s eastern flank, support for Ukraine, hybrid threats, and strategic energy and infrastructure projects.
United in NATO, the EU, and the NB8 family, Lithuania and Latvia will continue to strengthen our regional security.
A great day in Vilnius to welcome President @edgarsrinkevics for a state visit to Lithuania! 🇱🇹🇱🇻
Bound by a shared history, Lithuania and Latvia have built a kinship rooted in our Baltic heritage and close ties between our peoples.
This visit celebrates our shared Baltic heritage, 35 years since the restoration of diplomatic relations, and the enduring bond between our brotherly nations.
Lithuania and Latvia are more than neighbors – we stand together as close partners and allies, united by history, values, and a common future.
As America celebrates its 250th anniversary, Lithuanians are celebrating alongside our American friends.
Proud to see David Malukas, an American racing star with Lithuanian roots, at the White House ahead of the Freedom 250 Grand Prix. Wishing him continued success on and off the track! 🇱🇹🇺🇸
Lithuania is among NATO leading countries in defense spending. We are allocating 5.38% of our GDP to core defense with an additional 1.5% to dual-use infrastructure and resilience. In total, it amounts to almost 7% of GDP.
Today, at the NATO Summit in Ankara, I also underscored that the most effective deterrence is achieved when European and U.S. troops serve shoulder to shoulder on the Alliance's eastern flank.
Every NATO ally should join the 5% Club this is Lithuania's message at the #AnkaraSummit.
Effective deterrence depends on our capabilities backed by investment. 5% for defence should be the floor, not the ceiling.
Less talk. More action. Join the 5% Club!
Heading for the NATO Summit in Ankara.
I will speak about the importance of the transatlantic bond as the cornerstone of our collective security & defense.
Europe must assume greater responsibility and develop its capabilities faster.
Together, we are strong.
773 years ago, Grand Duke Mindaugas was crowned King of Lithuania.
Today, on State Day, we reflect on our origins, the lessons of history, and modern achievements.
As an independent, prosperous, and democratic nation, open to friends and invincible to enemies, we continue following the path set by our ancestors!
