Armed security didn’t stop the gunman at a store in Buffalo or a nightclub in Orlando. They couldn’t prevent shootings at schools in Santa Fe, Parkland or Uvalde. And now, even Secret Service couldn’t stop a shooting at a political rally in Pennsylvania.
It’s the fucking guns.
If you keep talking about the assassination attempt don’t you dare tell the kids who survive school shootings and their families to “just get over it”
What happened today is unacceptable and what happens every day to kids who aren’t the president and don’t survive isn’t either.
Every school shooting deserves this kind of unified anger and condemnation.
Every mass shooting deserves this kind of unified outrage.
Our kids in our schools deserve this kind of solidarity.
The perpetual gun violence in our country deserves unified opposition and action.
If you see that God is in the business of protecting your preferred presidential candidate from death, but not the other person at the rally, or school children, or immigrants, or Palestinians, then it may be that youre confusing your own political bias for God.
Whatever your feelings about the Trump shooting, it’s worth pointing out that if a Secret Service team can’t protect a presidential candidate, maybe expecting Mrs. Krabappel to protect her 4th grade students from an active shooter is unrealistic.
Senate Dems should take one of their assorted gun control bills off the shelf, rename it something like "Trump Assassination Prevention Act," and force Rs to do a talking filibuster to block it
We’ve talked about lots of cultural reasons the white mainline church is in decline, but I don’t believe we’ve talked enough about how the decline of the middle class has led to decreased congregational engagement.
We might even say that the policies white boomers voted for contributed to the decline of the church that white boomers are now lamenting. If we wanted to be controversial.
