@TrishMacf@alexmassie But there were more of them to pay for fewer pensioners receiving less generous pensions. The numbers don’t add up when there are more pensioners and fewer workers.
@JH_Investments@RichardSmi11113 People outside London are generally poor and dislike people who’ve done better than them. Hence anyone making more than them is “rich” and should pay for them. There’s a poverty of aspiration in Britain which doesn’t exist in more successful countries.
@ElizabethBangs@JohnRentoul@suzyquiquero Starmer delivered nothing but U-turns. Reeves was doom and gloom and highly dishonest about a £22bn black hole she’d just found, then proceeded to make worse with unfunded public sector pay rises.
@Bealeionaire@HoraceSpellman9 But it’s not, because if you work full time at Tesco you won’t be on Universal Credit. If you want to stop supermarket workers receiving UC then ban part time working and see how that goes down.
@RupertLowe10@adamboultonTABB Adam Boulton used to say he didn’t vote in order to maintain his impartiality. Yet somehow we all know EXACTLY how he’d vote.
@nick_constable@bbcnickrobinson I used to think they were lazy entitled cheats but have come to realise they are smart people. This is the incentive structure built by successive governments. Working for money and paying high taxes when you can get tax free money for nothing is the actual smart solution.
@CurtisDaly_ Middle class people own nothing because they pay >42% tax on everything they earn and have to pay exorbitant housing, transport and childcare costs out of what’s left. But “broadest shoulders” and all that.
