As someone who's had some extensive experience on both sides, the one thing not being said here is that the school system is equally to blame for the replacement of school sports with travel sports at the high school level. Why?
-Bureaucracy has made coaching increasingly difficult. No coaches. No quality programs. People find other solutions.
-The pay is nothing for school sports and the hours expected are long. Bad combination.
-Parents have more power through the educational system. Whatever you think about that, it's not a positive for school sports.
-Administrators are less supportive and less interested in successful sports programs. They are consumed with processes, paperwork, safety, IEP's, etc.

Travel sports have filled a void created by cumulative policy decisions over many years.

Also, everyone wants tough practice partners to magically appear. You have to create your own practice partners. Everyone wants to wrestle with someone better than them. But see how that doesn't work? Some of your time should be spent "developing" practice partners and executing new/less proficient techniques. That way, they get better to become challenging partners and you work on technique you likely can't execute on more challenging partners.

@MatScouts1 @NFHS_Org What about when a kid wins a state title or an NCAA championship and they throw their coach in a lat drop, or their coach throws them, or they embrace their coach? I've never seen a team point taken away for that. Adjustments need to be made

@EricOlanowski @Mitch_Rupert That call is inconsistently called and needs adjustments. I've never seen a team point taken away when a kid wins a state championship and hugs his coach on the mat or throws his coach on the mat. Why is it ok certain times and not ok other times?
