Medical Doctors at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital are on strike because:

1. They are not allowed to head & supervise in the Laboratory.

2. The number of Doctors not enough to start 24-hours OPD services

I just watched this interview of a Korle Bu doctor explaining the strike and I’m honestly angry.
Saying lab professionals “don’t have the training to correlate results with clinical findings” is simply false. Clinical correlation is part of our training. It’s exactly why we ask for DIAGNOSIS on request forms.
You cannot send incomplete forms with no diagnosis, then turn around and say labs can’t correlate results.
ALSO, The claim that labs have been producing “nonsensical” results for 10–15 years is not just inaccurate, it’s reckless. If that were true, we would have system-wide clinical failure, no routine care still functioning across the country.

Lab medicine is not guesswork. It’s a regulated discipline built on SOPs, internal QC, EQA schemes, validation protocols and trained professionals who understand both the analytics and the clinical context.

And since we’re talking about “why tests are repeated” and “why revenue drops,” let’s not pretend there aren’t other drivers. There are well-known practices where requests are redirected to private labs so that you the prescribers get a commission and we know it all too well and that has to be part of the conversation too.

If there are specific cases of poor quality, present the data, audit it, fix it. But blanket statements about incompetence???? After training for 6 plus years I beg to differ!

We all want patient safety. That requires accurate testing, proper clinical information and honest collaboration. Not selective narratives that place blame on one group while ignoring the full picture.

Let us, for once, assume the allegations of special portals are false.

We still have a national disgrace on our hands.

A country with real health needs should not have qualified health workers from 2021 still searching for employment.

That is not normal.

Both NPP and NDC have governed this country while young, skilled, badly needed health professionals have been left in limbo.

Then the same political class turns around and asks why the youth are leaving, why professionals are emigrating.

What exactly did they expect?

A state that cannot absorb its own trained health workers is inefficient & betraying its future.

Bro @kwadwosheldon, I want to draw your attention to a very unfortunate situation at the Ministry of Health. This is sad and disheartening.

There is an ongoing recruitment exercise for health professionals. The application portal was opened about three days ago, specifically for certain year groups.. for example, the 2021 batch of nurses.

However, less than two hours after opening, many qualified applicants could no longer access the portal. They kept receiving this feedback “No Slot Available.”

What makes this even more disturbing is the allegation that the Ministry is operating two different portals:
• A public one for the general population.
• A secret, special portal reportedly shared only among nurses affiliated with the NDC, said to be hosted at https://t.co/i39zoI5xRh. As I speak, that special portal has also been taken down after the nurses discovered and exposed it.

It appears that recruitment for “their own” has already been completed through the backdoor, while the widely publicized general recruitment is merely for optics.

Health professionals across various social media platforms are currently lamenting and expressing deep frustration over this development. I don’t think this is the kind of governance they voted for. How did we get to this point as a country?

Bro, I would be grateful if you could use your platform to shine a light on this issue. Our health professionals deserve transparency and fairness in this recruitment process. This is simply not right.
