Today, we proudly welcomed local and state lawmakers for "Legislators in Schools Day", with visits to Sadie Saulter Educational Center, Elmhurst Elementary, and Pitt Technical Academy at Pitt Community College.
The House once again pulled the anti-DEI bill from the calendar today. I spoke after Session about the potential chilling effect this legislation could have on North Carolina:
Folks, I might not walk as easily or talk as smoothly as I used to.
I might not debate as well as I used to.
But what I do know is how to tell the truth.
NC still has a literacy test in our state constitution.
Today the House took a HUGE step by unanimously voting to remove this racist Jim Crow remnant.
I’ve been honored to run this bill the past 2 terms, but I stand in a long line of legislators from Henry Frye on in doing so.
Underfunding our elections system threatens our democracy. As more administrative burdens get piled onto local boards of elections, there’s higher staff turnover & more vacancies. We MUST give our elections system the funds to hire & retain critical staff. https://t.co/3T9xAjiSs0
