This is WILD! 😳
On April 4, 1988, just out on bail after his arrest in South Carolina, James Brown sat down with Sonya Friedman on CNN’s ‘Sonya Live!’.
What began as a straightforward interview quickly turned into one of the most entertaining and unforgettable moments in music television.
When Sonya asked how the trouble started, James replied without hesitation: “Living in America!”
She pointed out that he was out on bond. He grinned and fired back, “I’m out on love!”
Sonya then asked what he would tell fans if they questioned him about the situation. James rattled off his classics: “I’m gonna say I Feel Good, Papa’s Got A Brand New Bag, It’s A Man’s World” and then stood up to do a little dance right there on the set. 😭
The talk shifted to his divorce proceedings and whether he was now eligible. “Yes, I’m eligible,” he declared. “I’m single… I wanna mingle!”
When Sonya asked why women love him so much, he answered with unmistakable confidence: “Because I look good, I smell good, I feel good… and make love good.”
As the interview came to a close, Sonya observed that he didn’t seem troubled by any of it. James responded by singing one of his signature songs: “This is a man’s world.” 😂
If you haven’t seen the full interview, watch it for yourself, it’s amazing.
