The Great Lakes Renewable Energy Association's Mission is to promote Renewable Energy in Michigan through education, advocacy and strategic collaboration.
Good morning with good news: Battery costs plunged 27% in 2025, a bigger fall than the 11% forecasted 2025 decline!
Global battery deployment jumps 33% in 2026 to 122.5 GW!
Battery costs fall 25%; solar costs 30%; land wind 23%/offshore 20% by 2035!

Solar is now the dominant source of new U.S. power capacity and is on track to surpass coal in total installed capacity before the end of 2026.
70 GW of new solar capacity is scheduled to come online in 2026–2027 → a 49% increase in operating solar capacity from the end of 2025.
The advancement of battery and EV tech is super impressive, just as costs also continue to plummet with growth of the industry and EV sales. To put it another way, EV's are going to crush fossil-fueled vehicles, just on the basis of economics and performance.
There is no reason solar panels can't last for 40+ years.
These panels in Switzerland were installed in 1982, and they're STILL producing at 80% capacity.
“The fact that they’re passing along the costs of arguing to raise our rates as much as possible onto the people that are paying the rates is a problem,” said Nick Dodge, communications director for @MichiganLCV. https://t.co/3t02IGehyh
Do We Need Miracle Technologies to Save the Planet?
No. The solution is to electrify most all energy, use direct heat for the rest, and obtain the electricity+heat from wind, water & solar while using less energy

That means customers pay not only for electricity or gas, but also investors’ profits. They also pay for things like utility lobbying, consultants and lawyers, executive compensation. It’s all baked into monthly bills.
At the center of the problem: how utilities make money. Utilities don’t just recover their costs. They earn returns on equity often well above market risk. These rates of return drive profits. They are approved by regulators and passed directly to customers.
A new Michigan ballot initiative aims to keep monopoly utility money out of politics. You'll be shocked to hear who coughed up half the cash so far to fight... Find out here: https://t.co/bUHbLnlnnQ
For all those who say, "#Renewables make #electricity more expensive!"... sorry but you've been fooled by the #oilandgas industry. #Solar is so abundant these days that it's easier to give it out for free. Until of course they install #lithium#Batteries to store it all up. But that'll take years and meanwhile we ride the boom!

People across the country want affordable energy, and renewable energy is simply more affordable than coal and gas.
“In 2026, any candidate who supports a high-cost energy agenda will face an activated electorate ready to vote for change.” https://t.co/uEEy0uqgvk
US wind & solar generated 20% more electricity than US coal in the first 7 months of 2025.
Solar in July 2025 surged ~30%, compared to July 2024. Utility-scale solar rose 37%.
Wind in July 2025 rose ~ 14%, compared to July 2024.

“It’s part of our broader initiative to really wean ourselves off of combusting fossil fuels and switching to renewables and much more efficient systems,” Weber explained. https://t.co/lSZMCLdz6G
In only three years, Sunrun has helped California’s statewide distributed power plant program reach the capacity of a large natural gas plant—and it’s on track to double by 2028.
A new analysis from @TheBrattleGroup finds that this growth in home battery adoption and energy dispatching could save Californians up to $206 million while making the grid stronger and more reliable.
More stability. Lower costs. A win for all Californians.
