What l found on the GARID Project
1. It is not accurate that the Government of Ghana or the Ministry of Finance has delayed the Greater Accra Resilient and Integrated Development (GARID).
2. Between 2019 and 2024, the previous administration drew down US$103.8 million from the World Bank $350m loan.
Here’s the breakdown of how the money was used:
· US$22.1 million (21%) went to "training".
· US$7.9 million (7%) was spent on "consultancies".
· US$60.8 million (59%)—the lion’s share—was diverted to COVID-19-related spending.
· US$1.68 million (2%) was used for other costs, largely the purchase of vehicles.
4. Just US$11.4 million, barely 11% of the entire loan, was actually spent on flood prevention and mitigation works. Put plainly: nearly US$9 out of every US$10 went to things other than protecting Ghanaians from floods. Only US$1 out of every US$10 was used for the project’s core purpose.
5. When the Mahama administration took office, it sought to ensure expenditure of the remaining funds must align with what the GARID Project was meant to achieve. So the Ministry of Finance engaged the World Bank and secured agreement to repurpose the remaining funds—redirecting them squarely toward flood prevention infrastructure.
6.That isn’t a delay. That is a deliberate, responsible decision to make sure the money does what it was always supposed to do: offer lasting protection to communities that have suffered for too long.
So far the following has been recorded.
7. In 2025, the government spent roughly US$3 million on actual flood mitigation works under the project. So far in 2026, about US$10.52 million has been released for the same purpose.
8 That brings the total for 2025–2026 to approximately US$13.52 million—already exceeding the US$11.4 million spent on flood works over the entire previous six-year period.
9. The Ministry of Finance has already approved the cedi equivalent of more than US$76 million under the GARID project for flood mitigation infrastructure in 2026 and 2027.
9. As was in 2025 and 2026, no new amount was spent on "training, consultancies, or vehicles."
10. The Ministry of Finance and the Government have not delayed the GARID Project. What they have done is refocus it—ensuring that every dollar now goes toward what it was originally borrowed for: protecting lives, property, and communities from the devastation of flooding.
Good night.
That’s why I said this on a previous post. In other countries, people do everything in their power to have a formal education and a certified work practice.
In Ghana, do everything in your power to become;
1. A politician or,
2. A wealthy person
3. A person of influence like a religious leader (pastor etc)
4. A chief or local leader
Because no matter how much you adore your leaders and will vote for them everytime out of loyalty, you have to put it inside your head that your leaders do not value you the same way at all.
At least 15 people have died due to the floods this week so far but;
1. There will be no National Day of Mourning.
2. There will be no State Burial for the group
3. There will be no ceremony of remembrance
4. There will be no funding ceremony or call for funds for influential people to deposit to support the families of the dead.
Why? Because these will be expensive ceremonies for people the government deems irrelevant. The only power individuals have over the government is their “one vote” and it’s not election time so who cares anyways? Life will go on for them.
However;
1. If one MP or Minister had died in his car because of the floods
2. If one rich man had drowned in his home
3. If a massive religious building like a renowned church or mosque collapsed
4. If a chief or popular person of influence died
You’ll see the government acting differently.
After the England vs. DR Congo game, my phone fell from my FIFA bib cos there were many people trying to exit the stadium & I was rushing to media centre to meet up with targets.
Got to media centre, check my bib & everywhere first blur - my phone had dropped at the fans' exit. Mogbe my Samsung S25 Ultra don go ke.
I summoned faith cos if it was Onikan Stadium or Naija Stadium, it will take a miracle to see it. - sad reality.
I went back to the spot, approached a volunteer, explained to her & we started this ultimate search cos the phone was not connecting at the time.
Called again after 20mins & someone picked, "Hello, this is the NYPD, someone lost this phone, come to Gate 2 if you are the owner'. Omo
Got to Gate 2, he asked me to unlock it once to claim it, did it & retrieved my phone.
Deliverables won't finish me in the US.
Chai, that's my Super Story 😭
Accra is poorly planned but this is also an unusually heavy amount of rain falling in a short period of time. No amount of planning can beat nature when it wants to nature.
Our people who live here in America have shown us so much love since we landed here. It is crazy.
Invites for lunch, full blown parties, everyone is just ready to help with something. I love us chale ❤️ 🇬🇭
From what I'm hearing, don't be surprised if Senaya secures a move to a major club after the World Cup. He's been one of the tournament's standout performers, and his stock keeps rising with every game.
