Not every woman came into this community chasing luxury. Some came because they were tired of choosing which bill could wait. Some came after losing jobs, homes, relationships, support systems and the version of themselves they thought they would always be. Some came with children depending on them. Some came from relationships where money was used to control them, punish them or keep them from leaving. Some came because they were tired of crying in grocery store aisles, putting things back, checking their account before ordering food and pretending they were okay so nobody would worry. Then they found a place where their voice mattered. Where they could rebuild. Where they could turn their personality, creativity and strength into something that belonged to them. So when you see a woman celebrating a payment, understand that she may not only be celebrating money. She may be celebrating rent paid without begging. Food in the house without fear. A door she finally had enough money to walk out of. A child who will never know how close their mother came to giving up. A dream she thought life had already taken from her. Behind some of the strongest women in this community is a softer version of them who once sat alone, terrified, wondering how she was going to survive. She did not disappear. She became the woman you see now. Sometimes, every confident post is really her whispering back to that frightened girl:
“We made it through.” 💗
