I am very fond of a marathon metaphor.
Why do we still run marathons even though it is much quicker to get a train or taxi?
Why should we learn to write even though it is much quicker to get the LLM to do it for us?
Sometimes the aim of doing something is to do it. There is no shortcut.

@Kathy_Rice No, it's not enough. People have been loudly calling out Boaler's work for over 2 years. But she is just one person - the canary in the coal mine. The issue is systemic and needs to be fixed at a policy level in my opinion.
Education research is weak and sloppy. Why? We all quickly condemned Units of Study, and Fountas and Pinnell, but what is happening in math is even worse. https://t.co/fGASKjOudI

It's not just phonics: Schools have failed to teach reading because they ignore 50+ years of findings in cognitive psychology that reading depends on general knowledge. ED Hirsch has been banging this drum for a long time but Ed Schools shut their ears because the whole idea was unromantic & had a vaguely right-wing aroma. Now he joins with Dan Willingham to make a strong case that kids can't read if they don't have the background knowledge that makes sense of the rarer vocabulary, allusions, and understandings that allow us to read between the lines - which all reading requires. https://t.co/l1y4nkJfPO
Excellent session at @ubiqeducation’s #UbiqX on ditching the traditional Open Day in favour of personalised experiences. Thanks @EmileeAlexson for outlining how we can focus on atmosphere, joy and interaction in our schools.

Since it's in the news at the moment, here's my post looking at whether English schools have improved over the last twenty years.
TL/DR
- Survived Covid much better
- Overtook Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland & Finland!

The 2026 Year of Reading campaign has launched across the UK. The goal is to promote & celebrate reading for pleasure. Is your school doing anything? If so, please share! I will be visiting lots of schools to talk about reading & writing as well as reading my children's books to children & families. ❤️ 📚 📖

This is probably the most important and clarifying video on Tech Education yet, it touches so many education issues and myth like memory, knowledge, creativity, educational technology, and so much more. Thanks @rastokke and Dr. Jared Cooney Horvath.
