"We want to make the role of the Chief Design Officer as commonplace as the CTO and CFO. We believe design has an essential role in the success of businesses," said @design_exec founder and CEO @gordoncching at Fortune #BrainstormDesign. https://t.co/ZwLyorNr6T
I'm really glad when my team at Spotify proves me wrong, like they did with "Discover Weekly."
People often think founders have everything planned out from the start, but that's at least not true for me. A lot of times, I rely on feedback from our team, customers, and partners. And I change my mind often. My job is a bit of that of a curator or producer - Iโm putting together pieces of a puzzle.
When the team first pitched me "Discover Weekly," I wasn't sure about it. I didn't really get why it was special. But the team kept building on it and more and more people internally got excited. When we launched it, I was surprised. Turns out, our users really loved it, and today it's one of the top features on Spotify.
One of the most underrated skills we have in our society is listening. So Iโm sending this tweet out in the world as a reminder to myself to work on becoming an ever better listener.
Iโve been going through a massive growth journey these past months and itโs hard to fully summarize just how much growth I had to endure to do what I do now. Shifting from a decade+ of corporate work to entrepreneurship has demanded my whole self to arrive. ๐ฑ
September is going to be an extraordinary month for @design_exec โ I have never felt more confident and clear about our mission, strategy, and team put in place. It truly feels like a collective of spirited contributors passionate about shaping the future design leadership.
Carving your own path, entrepreneurship, or any kind of pioneership requires a high tolerance for aloneness. What makes you distinct isnโt always what makes you popularโat least not in the beginning. Because the convention you challenge is what others relies on for stability.
@shriyanevatia Super helpful. I was actually pondering from the reversal company POV. How to structure the very first funding round with friends/family/colleagues?
one of the easiest policy wins i can imagine for the US is to reform high-skill immigration.
the fact that many of the most talented people in the world want to be here is a hard-won gift; embracing them is the key to keeping it that way.
hard to get this back if we lose it.
I canโt stop thinking about how @bchesky is the only designer CEO in the Fortune 500.
I do not know of any succession stories where designers are considered, nor do I ever hear designers wanting to be the CEO.
A huge opportunity sits right here.
@kennyyjw222@bchesky Applying design mindset to strategy, operations, and leadership is really where the compounding value starts to happen as a CEO, and how that sets the conditions for good business and design to occur in concert.
