I was hopeful but trails need more time to dry. The local storms yesterday were heavier than anticipated.

All trails, with the exception of the 1.25 mi, hiking only, Discovery Trail, are CLOSED.

TRAIL UPDATE for Monday, July 20th - ALL TRAILS are OPEN, except for the Protected Habitat Area. Please be prepared for heat as the high temperature for today is 99° with a heat index of 109°, and this week's highs are expected to reach up to 102°, with a heat index of 111°.

Sunday, July 19: Trails will be closed this morning, except for the Discovery Trail. We will check again later today. We are slowly drying out after 8.11" of rain.
Remember the Discovery Trail is leashed-dog friendly, but bikes are not allowed.

Trails at Government Canyon, except for the Discovery Trail, will remain closed on 7/17/2026. Leashed dogs are welcome on the DT, but not bikes.

Trails at Government Canyon will remain closed on Thursday, July 16 due to extremely wet conditions. The Discovery Trail is open to hikers with/without dogs, but not bikes. We expect it will be days yet before conditions improve enough to re-open the trails, but will post daily.

Tues, 6/23 - Trails are OPEN except for the Protected Habitat Area. Trails were checked after 4 pm and reopened. Be aware that there may be areas in the shade that are still tacky.

We are still drying out from the several inches of rain over the past few days. The humidity is not helping. All trails, with the exception of the 1.25 mile Discovery Trail are close. No bicycles on the Discovery Trail.
