Tom Mongelli, Remedial Project Manager, is giving the update on the Superfund cleanup on behalf of EPA Region II. Some work around the flushing tunnel continues, including removal of some NAPL that was discovered in the tunnel.
Supplemental dredging work in RTA1 is on target for completion in July, according to EPA, following which the flushing tunnel should be reactivated in a timely manner.

@EPAregion2 The city is going to begin foundation work shortly on the Owls Head CSO tank site. EPA's Brian Carr cites this as a major milestone, and something that some people thought might never happen. He calls it "a team effort."
@EPAregion2 Odor-control measures have been augmented at the CSO tank site in response to ongoing complaints about odors, including increased use of foam and tent structures, and relocation within the site of certain operations.
@EPAregion2 Access dredging will begin soon in RTA2 (the middle section of the canal), marking the start of the removal of contaminated material from that portion of the Gowanus Canal.
