Holding corrupt politicians accountable is long overdue, but Dissanakaye is systematically wiping out the entire opposition bloodline. This has a political purge written all over it. Urgent and impartial judicial intervention is required.

With 860 new HIV infections & syphilis cases skyrocketing from 100 to 1,500 annually, health authorities admit current prevention is totally insufficient
Instead of real action, government watches numbers climb. Sri Lanka’s prevention efforts are a joke

Deepening direct ties between New Delhi and Colombo keeps regional stability in local hands, cuts out outside interference, and actually benefits both countries. Neighbors taking care of the neighborhood beats foreign meddling every single time.
India and Sri Lanka just swapped 240 military personnel for a tri-service exchange. This is the exact kind of regional cooperation we need, instead of letting distant superpowers treat the Indian Ocean like a chessboard and pull us into their proxy games
I welcome the decision by the Supreme Court of Saudi Arabia to set aside the death sentence imposed on Sri Lankan national Anojan Sivarasa.
This brings immense relief to Anojan, his family, and all Sri Lankans who have followed his case with deep concern. It reflects the value of patient diplomacy, respect for the legal processes of a friendly nation, and the tireless work of those who stood by a Sri Lankan citizen abroad.
I express my sincere appreciation to the Government of Saudi Arabia for this outcome. I also thank the many Saudi Arabian and Sri Lankan diplomats, civil servants and legal teams for their dedicated efforts.
My Government will continue to extend all necessary support to Anojan and his family as the remaining legal processes conclude. No Sri Lankan who leaves our shores in search of a livelihood should ever feel that they stand alone.
Beijing peddles this as "infrastructure cooperation," but it's pure predatory colonialism. Trading a vital national deep-sea port to clear unpayable debts is an absolute surrender of sovereignty!
China traps developing nations with predatory loans, forcing them to surrender sovereign assets when they can't pay! Look at Sri Lanka losing the strategic Hambantota Port on a 99-year lease because of engineered debt-trap diplomacy
Nearly 4 decades later, the victims of Batalanda deserve justice, not more delays. President Dissanayake’s government must ensure an independent, thorough investigation, protect witnesses and hold anyone proven responsible accountable, regardless of rank or political affiliation
A major diplomatic relief for Sri Lanka!
Saudi Arabia has set aside death sentence on Anojan, following sustained efforts by Sri Lankan government. A reminder that persistent diplomacy and legal engagement can make a life-changing difference
You don’t have strategic autonomy when a foreign power holds key maritime infrastructure in your backyard. Sri Lanka traded sovereign control for short-term balance-of-payments fixes, giving Beijing veto-level leverage over its strategic moves.
Hambantota was no debt-trap accident. Colombo ran massive deficits, handing China a 99-year port lease when loan servicing spiked. That isn't economic relief, it's a high-stakes foreclosure strategy masquerading as foreign investment.
In May 2009, UN rights chief Navi Pillay, who was awarded 2026 Nobel Peace Prize for her lifelong defense of international law & justice, pushed for an international probe into war crimes by both Colombo & LTTE, stressing that military victory cannot justify humanitarian abuses
Stripping Gnanasara Thero of his robes is standard prison code, not a state attack on Buddhism. Marching from Kandy over a convict's civilian attire is a dangerous flex—monks aren't above secular law & a saffron robe shouldn't be an immunity shield from criminal sentencing.
Beijing heavily protects its own markets with tariffs while flooding Sri Lanka with manufactured goods and machinery. Without genuine trade concessions, "economic partnership" with China remains a one-way street that keeps Colombo financially subordinate.
Sri Lanka and China are preparing to commemorate historical trade agreements.
What is there to commemorate?

As Sri Lankans, we stand together, regardless of our religion or ethnicity. We humbly appeal to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to kindly consider granting a pardon to our fellow Sri Lankan, Sivarasa Anojan, on humanitarian grounds.
