my anxiety has a loophole that if somebody else is equally or more uncomfortable i develop the sudden ability to DO THE THING. i can’t go and ask for more ketchup for myself but if my friend wants more ketchup i’m out of my seat in a second
someone told me yesterday that when they feel nervous about trying something new & their heart starts beating really fast, that they call it their “inner applause” because their body is cheering them on, and i think that’s the best narrative adjustment ever.
the best thing a therapist ever told me is “you’re not lazy, you only have a certain amount of energy and right now you’re using it all to survive” and i know someone else needs to hear that too
