The women, afraid but joyful, run to tell the disciples what they have seen and heard. Suddenly Jesus, fully alive and well, meets them! The women worship Him and He tells them to go and tell the others.
At dawn, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary go to the tomb only to find the body of Jesus gone. The angel tells them to not be afraid because "He is not here. He is risen!"
Jesus is resurrected! Another earthquake shakes the city as an angel rolls the stone away and sits on it. The guards are terrified at the sight and freeze as if they were dead.
Jesus' body rests in the tomb. Meanwhile, Jewish leaders petition Pilate to station guards at the tomb in case the Apostles get the idea to steal the body and say He has risen. Pilate agrees.
Jesus is buried and laid in the tomb of a rich man named Joseph of Arimathea, who had become a follower of Jesus. A large stone is rolled in front of the entrance as Mary Magdalene and Mary, the mother of Jesus, look on in sadness.
Roman soldiers break the legs of the victims to speed up death, but Jesus is already dead. Instead of breaking His legs, they pierce His side, through to His heart.
Jesus dies. An earthquake reverberates through the city and the dead rise from their graves appearing to many. The veil separating the Most Holy Place in the temple is torn from top to bottom symbolizing that mankind now has access to know God through Jesus!
Jesus is forced to carry His own cross up the Golgotha hill. When Jesus could no longer carry the cross, the soldiers force Simon of Cyrene to carry it for Him. Then, crucifixion of Jesus begins as His hands and feet are nailed to the cross.
Jesus returns to Pilate, who repeatedly attempts to release Him. Pilate orders Jesus to be scourged to satisfy the Jewish leaders, but the Jews demand that Jesus be crucified. Pilate resists but eventually gives the order to execute Jesus by crucifixion.
Jesus is brought to Herod Antipas who had (Roman-appointed) jurisdiction over Galilee. Herod only mocks Jesus, who tells him nothing. So, Herod sends Jesus back to Pilate.
Jesus now has a third trial before Roman governor, Pontius Pilate, who asks Him if He is the King of the Jews. When Pilate learns Jesus is from Galilee, he sends Him to Herod.
Jesus is brought before the current high priest, Caiaphas, and his officials. They ask Jesus if He is the Messiah. When He doesn't give them the answer they want to hear, Caiaphas tears his clothes and accuses Jesus of blasphemy. They petition the Roman government to kill Jesus.
Jesus stands before Annas, former Jewish High Priest, who questions Him about his disciples and teaching. Instead of defending himself, Jesus says to ask those who heard his teaching. For this response, an official slaps Jesus on the face.
Jesus prays in the Garden of Gethsemane. He prays to The Father for the unity of his disciples and all those who will follow Him for generations to come. The weight of the world is pressing down on Him and in his anguish, his sweat is like drops of blood.
Jesus eats the Passover meal with His disciples. Judas leaves to betray Him and the Lord talks to the remaining 11 about love, unity and sacrifice. He closes with prayer and leads the 11 to the Garden.
