I'm gonna take a break from Twitter. As someone who eats the whole bag of jerky on the way home from the store, I should have known I'd get addicted.
@DallasAptGP email me when you set a date for our spaces thing
@justinmilleresq you warned me
@egradman I pray you never read this
A couple months ago I came back to Twitter hoping I would use it responsibly. I've enjoyed it, but I recognize I'm an incessant doomscroller. Now seems like a good time to take another short break. See y'all in a few months!

Ohhh mind-forged manacles. In middle school, if you raised your hand and didn't mention mind-forged manacles, it was like were you even paying attention last semester??
This case came out today. Taxpayer lost because she couldn't document her expenses. Great to share with clients at tax season as a warning.

The last #CalvinandHobbes comic is a bittersweet sendoff to the series. It's my preference over Dr. Seuss's 'Oh, the Places You'll Go'
I cherish sharing the collections that are now 30+ years old with my kids.
The first lawyer went to Mt. Olympus, and stole pretext from the gods.
When the eagle came to peck out his liver, the lawyer said: "Why, for stealing pretext? I didn't steal it; I was trying to find its rightful owner."
And that, my son, is why we have pretext, and lawyers.
@DallasAptGP The rules for unimproved land are pretty subtle! As a starting point, I suggest people look at the preamble to the final regs https://t.co/5quHtzHZD1
And do full-text searches for LAND to get the key issues.

@erasmuse My father, the Harvard educated surgeon and accomplished classical pianist, and you should start a think tank.
(PS I keep ribbing you on Twitter because I respect you)
@erasmuse@OrinKerr But see RS Avi-Yonah, in Tax Stories, 2003: "The discussion of INDOPCO...does raise the interesting issue of why Justice Blackmun, the best-trained tax lawyer in the history of the Supreme Court, so consistently reached bad results in tax cases."
But you could flip that narrative: If you take the view that the 4A is triggered when surveillance lets the government know with confidence what a person is doing, perhaps obtaining location info shouldn't be as easily deemed a search as SCT has tended to assume.
In Abraham Rabinovich's "The Yom Kippur War," an Egyptian cameraman describes filming Israeli prisoners: they looked into the camera, knowing that if they appeared in film, their captors could be held accountable for their survival.
I'm surprised to learn we made that a crime.
Filming prisoners of war violates the laws of war. Why are people on here sharing these videos and photos? The rules apply even against the aggressors. Here’s the International Red Cross commentary on Article 13 of Geneva Convention (III):
@benefitsgirl@ForemanTaxLaw@AtlantaTax I wanted Albany to come from "Alba Longa," a name for Italy which appears in the Aeneid, so it would fit with Rome, Ithaca, Athens, Troy, etc. So I'm a little disappointed
@T0E_B@FOX5Vegas I don't think you understand. We have to pay taxes on jackpots $1200 and over. They are trying to make it so you can win up to $4,999.99 without paying taxes and filling out forms.
