So you're a new track and field fan because of the Paris Olympics and want to keep up with the sport?
Welcome! There's lots to be excited about!
Here are a few quick tips on how to stay and keep up with the sport post-Games...
1. Follow @CITIUSMAG ๐งโ๐ป
Shameless plug. Our mission actually is: Make it easier (and way more fun) to be a track fan. We're constantly hitting you with news, analysis, commentary and more on the latest in the sport + who/when/where to watch the top stars in action throughout the year. We do it via our social media channels, newsletters, podcasts, YouTube videos + more.
2. Follow your new favorite athletes ๐ฒ
Whether it's @itsgabbyt, Julien Alfred, @cole_hocker, Letsile Tebogo, @QuincyHall400, Faith Kipyegon, or Yaroslava Mahuchikh, their Instagram pages tend to be the best place to learn where they're competing next, how training is going and how else to support them.
3. Where will the athletes compete next? ๐
Many athletes will run in some of the Diamond League meets scheduled over the next month. For example, we'll see Cole Hocker vs. Jakob Ingebrigtsen in Lausanne next week over 1500m again. In addition to Olympic rematches, expect some time trials to capitalize upon their peak fitness to break world records.
Upcoming meets: Lausanne ๐จ๐ญ (Aug. 22); Silesia ๐ต๐ฑ (Aug. 25th); Rome ๐ฎ๐น (Aug. 30th); Zurich ๐จ๐ญ (Sept. 5); Brussels ๐ง๐ช (Sept. 13-14)
If you hold onto that Peacock subscription, you can watch these meets on there through the rest of this year.
4. Mark your calendars ๐๏ธbe joining
There are plenty of track championships ahead. 2025 will feature the World Indoor Championships in Nanjing (March 21-23) ๐จ๐ณ & the World Championships in Tokyo ๐ฏ๐ต (Sept. 13-21). 2026 debuts the World Ultimate Championships in Budapest ๐ญ๐บ (Sept. 11-13). The 2027 World Championships will be in Beijing ๐จ๐ณ (Dates TBD).
๐ Next year, some of the top stars will join @GrandSlamTrack โ a professional league by @MJGold aimed at having the best track athletes compete against one another at least four times per year. 2025 will be its inaugural season. The league will have 96 athletes competing in the short sprints (100m/200m), short hurdles (100h or 110h/100m), long sprints (200m/400m), long hurdles (400mh), short distance (800m/1500m) and long distance (3000m/5000m) categories. The winner of each category will be awarded $100,000 at each Slam. Broadcast details have yet to be announced. Two meets will be held in the U.S. and two will be international.
Reddit co-founder @alexisohanian will be hosting a new women-only track event called @athlos NYC on Sept. 26 in New York City. 36 athletes, including Gabby Thomas and Faith Kipyegon, have committed to the event for a chance to earn $60,000 for the win in the 100, 200, 400, 800 and 1500m. Megan Thee Stallion is set to perform at the meet.
5. ๐บ Go back and watch old races
There are tons of races on YouTube including on the NBC Sports YouTube channel. Educate yourself on some of the backstories of the athletes with documentaries like SPRINT from @BoxToBoxFilms. Some athletes do a fantastic job sharing their respective behind-the-scenes on their own channels like @LylesNoah, @tar___ruh, @RCrouserThrows, @mrgnmcdnld, @JakeSWightman, etc.
6. ๐ฃ๏ธ TELL YOUR FRIENDS.
This really is the best sport out there and we all want to share in that excitement with many more people.
(If you're a track and field fan getting peppered with questions on how to stay hooked on the sport after the Olympics, feel free to share this advice!)

Wichita photographer Christopher Clark took this photo of the new Jackie Robinson statue as the sun was setting Tuesday night. It is, obviously, gorgeous. Thanks to Christopher for this amazing photo.

Ryan Crouser is the FIRST man to ever win three shot put Olympic titles in a row with his 22.90m throw at #Paris2024 ๏ฟฝ๏ฟฝ๏ฟฝ

๐บ๐ธ Hereโs what @JoeKovacsUSA had to say after his third consecutive silver medal at the Olympics in the shot put. Came up massively clutch on his final throw to make it happen.๐ฅ
๐ฃ๏ธ โIโll tell you, that last throw was not a good technical throw, but it was a good emotional throw and I found a way to make it happen. Iโm probably going to be more proud of that throw as a silver medal than all of my other ones before.โ
โWalking out into the stadium, I felt more emotion than ever because who knows if this will be my last Olympics or if Iโll go through LA,โ he said. โYou can never take anything for granted, especially at the Olympics. This one I definitely felt the emotions. I felt really proud because my wife is the Olympic coach for the womenโs team, so we both were here on a mission.โ
Love this photo of him and his wife and coach @ashleykovacsusa

๐จAND STILL.....RYAN CROUSER IS YOUR 3X OLYMPIC CHAMP๐
Even after injury, @RCrouserThrows comes out on top to become the FIRST 3X Olympic Shot Champ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ
Rain showed up in round 4 and caused many slips and falls affecting every one...but @JoeKovacsUSA as he hit a last round bomb of 22.15m to tie Rajindra Campbell, winning silver on tiebreaker.
Rajindra wins Jamaica's first men's shot medal coming up biggest when it mattered most.
Payton Otterdahl comes 4th with an incredible day ending with 22.03m.
Sad the rain played such a big part but Ryan Crouser is inevitable.

@beau_throws I know Al Oreter threw buckets of water on the dry discus ring on sunny days at the University of Kansas to be ready for any weather at the Mexico Olympics. It drizzled miserably in the moist heat and the ring was slippery, but he threw his gold medal throw on his first attempt!
Simone Biles has become the most decorated American Olympic gymnast of all time after Biles and her teammates secured gold in the team finals at the Paris Olympics.
With her eighth medal, she surpasses Shannon Miller's seven-medal haul. https://t.co/CKoUR3wj5x
