@_ezeokolorie Another person subtly suggesting that a young black man lacks capacity to make his own decisions or have his own responsibilities. I thought we'd left this far-right racism behind.
@Madeline_Avenue @lorrainemking The maximum penalty is 20 years. His sentence was lenient by UAE standards, possibly because of the attention.
Are you implying he should have got more?
@RejiYates What's the mother's identity go to do with what this young man did? He is responsible for his actions, he is the one that committed a crime, as far as the UAE is concerned.
@Hammer_On_X@SholaMos1 The author appears to be implying that black men don't have agency for their actions, and Indian women are evil. Otherwise, why bring ethnicity into it?
Her take, as she presents it, is racist and sexist and goes to very problematic stereotypes.
@WalterKovacs69@narindertweets But a law in place that was broken. The UAE don't care whether you or I think their laws are backwards. If someone came from the UAE to the UK we would expect them to adhere to UK law, whatever they think of it.
@knowles204@narindertweets That's the most reasonable and coherent argument I've heard so far. Clearly, the Dubai Courts weren't fully convinced though.
@knowles204@narindertweets So she snitched, does that magically mean he didn't commit the offence? Why are you reducing him to less than a decision-making human in this? He chose to do something illegal. He is a human with his own agency, isn't he? What is it about him that makes you think otherwise?
@WalterKovacs69@narindertweets Exactly what do you think was going on in the room where the offence was committed for the girl's mother to be responsible for being a male over 18 having sex with a female under 18?
@TalkTervosaurus@narindertweets He was the one having sex with someone under 18, the girl wasn't. It happened in Dubai so that's obviously where it was reported.
I'm not sure what you're on about.
