Let’s slow down and ask, “what do you value?”
What brings meaning into your life? (Ok so that’s two questions ;)
Envy is real. Mimetic desire (hat tip to @LukeBurgis) is a powerful force.
How do you slow yourself down and evaluate a purchase? Wait 24 hours? Wait 7 days?
What works for you?
But if you run on debt, you are dependent on your job.
You have only bad choices. You have to work more.
So much of our work together is building daily habits that better your position.
Allowing you to weather the inevitable storms that life brings our way.
I strongly believe in the power of positioning.
You have solid choices when you are in a great position.
When you care for your health, you put yourself in a great position.
When you save and invest, you are bettering your financial position.
You don’t have to rush to make decisions.
As an anesthesiologist, the foundation of our work is being prepared.
To know your patient’s medical history, and the details of the surgery and to prepare for potential complications.
Your financial life should be cared for with this same preparation.
To understand your current financial state.
To spend time exploring where you want to go. To know what you value.
And prepare for the unexpected. We don’t know when challenges will arise, but we can be certain they will.
Money is a tool to help you live your authentic life.
But too often, we think money is the end goal.
Saving for retirement is another achievement to cross off the list.
I also know how much you sacrificed and how hard you worked to become a doctor.
And more than anything, I want to see you succeed financially.
So you can build your life full of meaning and purpose.
In the hospital, you call a cardiac consult when you need a cardiac evaluation.
Or you call nephrology to help answer a few questions.
Or your favorite neurosurgeon to come evaluate your patient for potential surgery.
Why wouldn’t you ask for the same expert guidance with your finances?
As an MD and JD I use this expertise to build wealth and purpose for my colleagues.
I understand the details and help you learn in a language you can understand.
When we talk, this is the #1 outcome they want.
To feel better about their money decisions.
Schedule time today and start feeling better about your financial decisions.
I work with some incredible physicians. Excellent training. Wicked smart.
They also care deeply about their patients and provide the best care.
Yet, so many tell me they don’t feel confident about their money decisions.
I’m looking for great estate attorneys to refer clients.
I have several in my home state of Oregon.
Who have you worked with who does an incredible job?
Even better if they meet remotely with clients.
Ask them questions. Be interested.
People, especially physicians, love to help others on their path.
We used to be limited by geography. Now you can find a mentor all across the globe.
What a gift.
One of the best life hacks, personally and professionally, is finding a great mentor.
Someone who has walked, crawled, and dragged themselves through the same path.
Someone to accelerate your learning and pick you up when you fall.
