Meanwhile every headline says employers are "desperate for workers" and can't find anyone.

Because from where I'm standing, the jobs that are supposedly begging to be filled are somehow still unfilled after I applied, interviewed three times, and got ghosted.

This is what “public safety” looks like now.

LA County is cutting checks up to $15,000 for households that say they got hit by ICE — and they pulled $5 million out of wildfire housing money to do it.

Read that again.

Palisades and Eaton families are still fighting to rebuild. County takes $5 million from the wildfire housing pot, slides it toward “immigration enforcement hardship,” caps it at $15k a unit, and the application guide says you don’t have to disclose immigration status. Claim the raid wrecked your income. They’re paying rent, mortgage, utilities.

That’s the kicker. Fire victims waiting. Undocumented households who say ICE showed up getting a stack. No status question on the form.

At this point every Californian should walk up and say, “Juan Tavera. I was affected. Where’s my check?”

Because if the bar is “show up and tell them,” that’s not relief. That’s a flashing neon sign.
