And as former head of energy at DESNZ and Stonehaven director of policy Adam Bell explains in this also very helpful blog, expensive gas is the reason for current high power prices
We won't address high power prices if we don't begin with the facts

@NadiaWhittomeMP@green_mac Unless Labour is willing to tax millionaires and billionaires, to the point where they contribute fairly into the structure of the country they have chosen to live in, Starmer will continue to push us all into oblivion at best...
When Carla Denyer MP asked Keir Starmer what more evidence he needs to call the starvation of Palestinians 🇵🇸 a genocide given Israel 🇮🇱 has banned UNRWA in spite of the ICJ.
Starmer proudly declares:
“I have never described what’s going on in Gaza 🇵🇸 a genocide’
A disgrace.
"It is simple maths that if we stop paying dividends and debt that frees up 40% of people's water bills to be invested in fixing the sewage system" @GreenJennyJones Amendment 98 public ownership as an option. Government ruling it out will cost bill payers in future negotiations.
After the València floods led to 150 deaths, it’s worrying to see such incoherence on climate in @UKLabour’s budget.
Transport accounts for 30% of our emissions and yet between the fuel duty freeze and the rise in bus fares, we’re going in the wrong direction. #bbcpoliticsnorth
In the light of the jaw-dropping and terrible news and images coming out of Spain, it is high time for the U.K. Govt to add a sixth mission, which is needed to make safe all the rest, and all of us: a mission to invest and plan for urgent climate adaptation, to make us resilient against the climate disasters that will be coming for us, here, too.
Tuition fees have forced universities to prioritize profit over education and put many at risk of bankruptcy, while students face extortionate interest rates - except for those wealthy enough not to need a loan.
They have been a disaster and should be scrapped, not increased.
First introduce by @CarolineLucas - this Bill is a #NoBrainer for anyone concerned about the state of nature and the climate. #CaNBill Thank you @nationaltrust for your wise support! And @zerohour_uk for championing this Bill ...until it goes all the way to law.
⚡ BIG NEWS! ⚡
@NationalTrust members have voted in favour of supporting the Climate and Nature Bill!
We’re grateful to everyone who voted for the #CANBill motion at today’s #NationalTrust AGM.
We’re looking forward to campaigning with the Trust in the crucial months ahead.
Suggestions that solar panels for new homes may just be optional after pressure on Labour from house builders would make mockery of any commitment to greener homes - Labour must face down house builder lobby if it’s to retain any credibility on this 👇 https://t.co/hzdT5b5bSl
A 2% tax for wealth above £10m would raise £24bn a year for public services & help build a fairer, more sustainable economy
That's why I joined 30 cross-party MPs urging the Chancellor to introduce a wealth tax on the very richest & not cut services in next week's #Budget2024
