St. Catharine Catholic Church in east Columbus, Ohio threw the kind of event that used to be the safest night on the calendar — FunFest, an annual family festival that doubles as a fundraiser for the parish. On Friday evening it collapsed into chaos. A large fight broke out among groups of teenagers around 7 p.m., the church shut the gates, and by the next morning the booths sat tented and abandoned. Father Bob announced the rest of the 2026 festival was 𝘤𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦𝘭𝘦𝘥.

This was not a schoolyard scuffle. 𝐈𝐭 𝐭𝐨𝐨𝐤 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧 𝐚 𝐡𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐩𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐜𝐫𝐮𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐨𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐫𝐨𝐰𝐝 𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐥, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐝. The mayhem spilled out into the surrounding neighborhood — teens robbed a nearby Bexley CVS and vandalized a Giant Eagle on Main Street. Police found no guns and no s∗ots fired and reported no injuries — small mercies on a night that turned a church fundraiser into a containment operation.

That is a teenager naming the thing the adults in charge keep dancing around — 𝐚 𝐟𝐞𝐰 𝐡𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐰𝐡𝐨 𝐜𝐚𝐦𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐰𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐤 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐧𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐥𝐞 𝐢𝐭 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐰𝐡𝐨 𝐜𝐚����𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞.

The city reached for the usual vocabulary. Mayor Andrew Ginther called the behavior 𝘶𝘯𝘢𝘤𝘤𝘦𝘱𝘵𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦 and said neighborhood events should be welcoming places for families. Police Chief Elaine Bryan was blunter: 𝘭𝘢𝘸𝘭𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘣𝘦 𝘵𝘰𝘭𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘪𝘯 𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘤𝘪𝘵𝘺. 𝘞𝘦 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘩𝘰𝘭𝘥 𝘪𝘯𝘥𝘪𝘷𝘪𝘥𝘶𝘢𝘭𝘴 𝘢𝘤𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘵𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘪𝘳 𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴. Strong words — but the festival is still canceled, the parish is still out its fundraiser, and the families who counted on a safe summer tradition still went home early. This was not a one-off; officials conceded it fits a recent wave of 𝘵𝘦𝘦𝘯 𝘵𝘢𝘬𝘦𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘴 at local events.

A Somali World Cup referee was denied entry into the U.S. after CBP says inspectors uncovered information linking him to suspected members of terror organizations.

Omar Artan arrived at Miami International Airport on Saturday and was turned away despite reportedly receiving a U.S. visa just days earlier.

He was expected to join other referees in Miami ahead of the tournament, but has now returned home to Somalia.
