24 HOURS. That is exactly how long 19-year-old Florida deputy trainee Kai Cromer lasted in law enforcement before his career completely disintegrated.

​Less than a day after being sworn in with the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office, Cromer reported to Vero Beach High School for a routine orientation. But while he was on campus, a 16-year-old student recognized him—and exposed a disturbing secret.

​The student revealed that Cromer had been targeting her on Snapchat, pressuring her to send photos. A school official acted immediately, reporting the incident and launching an overnight Special Victims Unit investigation.

​When detectives executed a search warrant on Cromer’s cell phone, they uncovered digital evidence revealing that she wasn't the only one. Investigators discovered a pattern of inappropriate communications identifying at least four minor victims.

​Cromer was immediately fired by his department and arrested by his fellow officers.

​The case reached its final legal conclusion when Cromer accepted a plea agreement. He pleaded guilty to three counts of possession of obscenity harmful to minors and was sentenced to 8 months in county jail, followed by 3 years of probation, carrying a permanent felony conviction on his record.
