By withdrawing all meaningful support Trump has no leverage on Kyiv, demonstrated by the devastating attack Ukraine launched on Moscow the other day despite his pleadings to Zelensky to stop. Trump is just a disgraceful, ignorant old man and has been exposed as such around the world.

I agree, the Koch foundation has long advocated “restraint” but this is such an abject strategic surrender one that rolls back a nearly 200-year old US policy in the Pacific, that it does beg the question who else’s bidding are they following. And just what does the US gain in return?

Also, China has looked at the United States as a declining, but dangerous, power since 2008 at least with the financial crisis and Iraq war. The problem is that Chinese leaders spend too much of their time reading US IR books and treating them like astrological predictions. This is why Allison’s simplistic Thucydides Trap is so appealing to them..

@SariArhoHavren @RobAtkinsonITIF But that doesn’t make China a global leader. The US lost its leadership of the UN with the emergence of the non-aligned movement but that didn’t end US hegemony. China’s increasing Institutional dominance of UN only discredits the UN.
