Cape Verde pushed the world champions to the very brink, extracting blood, sweat, and lactic acid by the bucketload. The Sharks bared their teeth, and made a god tremble. Messi looks like he stared into the abyss and saw the depths of his own soul. What a performance. Hearts won around the world, and not in any kind of patronising way.
Croatia are absolutely incredible. Population of 3.8 million and constantly over-achieve. They have had better teams than this but they never say die and spirit always allied to top technical players. One of the greatest football nations.
The 6th @BioRTCNig International #Computational#Neuroscience Summer School has just concluded, and it has been our most memorable yet.
Since founding @BioRTCNig in 2021, we have organised six annual summer schools with the support of the #Yobe State Government and our international partners and funders. Together, these programmes have trained more than 1,000 scientists across #Africa, from undergraduate students to professors.
Last and this year, we focused on Computational Neurosciences led by @MMaravall and @AlbertCompte and funded by @SimonsFdn. This year we received nearly 400 applications from across Africa for fewer than 40 places. The calibre of applicants continues to grow, and so does the urgency of what we are doing.
This year's edition was particularly significant. It was the first hosted in BioRTC's newly commissioned permanent facility, built by the Yobe State Government and officially opened in January 2026. Seeing scientists from across Africa and Europe learning and collaborating in a building that only recently existed as a vision was extraordinary.
Our international faculty brought far more than lectures and practical sessions. They brought world-class expertise, mentorship, and networks that open doors for African scientists, while experiencing firsthand the talent and potential that exists here in Yobe State and across the continent.
As has become a cherished tradition, we had the honour of briefing His Excellency the Executive Governor of Yobe State, ably represented by the Deputy Governor, on the summer school's activities. We also had the privilege of visiting His Royal Highness Alhaji (Dr.) Shehu Hashimi II Ibn Umar Al-Ameen El-Kanemi, the Emir of Damaturu, who welcomed us with his characteristic warmth and generosity. These visits remind us that BioRTC's work is not just scientific, it is deeply rooted in community, tradition, and shared purpose.
To our faculty, staff, students, partners, and funders — thank you. We are building something real in Yobe State, and the best is still ahead.

Weirdly looking forward to this, even though Nigeria are deprived of their two best attackers (Victor Osimhen doesn't play friendlies, apparently) and no.1 goalkeeper.
In a alternate timeline, this match would have taken place a week later in Houston, rather than today in Lisbon. So there is very much a 'What If' element, and while Portugal are clear favourites, there will no doubt be some moral satisfaction for Nigeria in improbably bloodying their noses tonight. The Iberians have been a little lazy in selecting friendly opponents – DR Congo play nothing like Nigeria – but they are not unique in that mindset, and it is no matter: the Super Eagles will probably give them a tougher examination anyway.
Not much thought has been given to how @NGSuperEagles would have fared in Group K. We will never know, but seeing how Eric Chelle's attacking scheme has flowered over the last 200 days, you can bet there would have been some blockbuster matches. Just imagine the blood, thunder and lightning transitions of a Nigeria v Colombia showdown in Guadalajara. Or the clash of styles with Uzbekistan in Atlanta, probably with knockout qualification on the line. It would have been glorious.
We will never know.
Pretty incredible to watch this @spurs team grow up right in front of our eyes. They finished 14th in the West last season and now they’re headed to the NBA Finals less than a year later.
Humanity, created by God in all its grandeur, is today facing a pivotal choice: either to construct a new Tower of Babel or to build the city in which God and humanity dwell together. In Jesus Christ, this humanity in its grandeur becomes the Way, the Truth and the Life, opening the path for each of us to grow toward fullness. #MagnificaHumanitas

Spain favourites. Excellent all round squad, winning Euros a big step towards a World Cup.
Argentina. Will have huge support in the US, lots of winners in the team.
France. On ability alone an exceptionally talented group. But it's France, who can always manage to somehow, some way self sabotage due to volatility as a national sporting trait.
Dark horse, Portugal, strong squad, almost nobody talking about them which will suit them.
Left field shout. Morocco. Excellent squad, Moroccan football at all levels having a renaissance.
